Desperate to plan your next trip as soon as you got home from the last one? Here are some suggestions for your next UK City Break.

Each month, I ask a group of my blogging friends for their recommendations on a particular topic. Last month it was Summer Beauty Must Haves, and this month I asked them for their City Break recommendations. I got so many great suggestions that I have decided to split them into two posts.

So today, I’ve pulled together some lovely ideas for UK City Breaks. These are ideal for when you just want to get away for a night at the weekend. But if you want to go further afield, I’ll be posting about European City Breaks next Monday.

It’s probably not going to come as a huge surprise that top of my list is my nearest city, Birmingham. I absolutely love visiting Birmingham, and have posted before about some of the hidden gems in the city. Although I live in Shropshire, I usually visit the city at least once a month and spend a weekend there a few times each year. There’s fantastic shopping, great bars and clubs, gorgeous hotels and masses of culture. What more could you ask for in a city break?

Emma from Fashionmommy’s blog  (@fashion_mommyWM) agrees. She says Birmingham is ‘a city on the up – a buzzing, vibrant place’. And Louis from Lou’s News points out that there is ‘lots to do and see, and lots of places to get into for free’.

Travelling a couple of hours up the M6 will get to you to our next destination. I’ve visited Liverpool a few times for events such as the Ultimate Christmas Fair, and I definitely want to see more of the city. Over to Michaela from Adventures of a Yorkshire Mum (@Yorkshire_Mummy) who says ‘ There is so much on offer, all so close together. Liverpool One for shopping, and Chavasse Park in the centre of town so you can sit down and relax. Museums galore from the Maritime Museum, Tate, Museum of Liverpool, then there’s the Beatles Story and of course The Cavern Club. The Mersey Ferry is amazing and Mattel Play is great for kids. All of this is right at the centre of the city, with the amazing Albert Dock at centre stage’.

Somewhere I really fancy spending a weekend is Brighton. I stayed in the city for a few days back in (ahem!) 1999 for a trade show. It seemed like a fab place to visit, although I spent most of my time in an exhibition centre! Victoria from Florence and Mary (@FlorenceandMary) says Brighton has ‘great food and shopping on offer. If you love antiques – that’s covered. For architecture there’s the Pavilion, and of course not forgetting all your usual seaside treats such as the pier and good old fish and chips’.

Fatima from Blogs by FA (@Blogsbyfa) has picked a city that I hadn’t thought about visiting until now –  Durham. She says it’s ‘ a very beautiful and peaceful place, lovely for a short break in the city and its surrounding areas’.

Another popular suggestion for your next UK City Break is Edinburgh. Tessa Holly from Holly Sparkle (@tessaholly) recommends the Scottish capital because ‘it’s a beautiful city with loads of independent and quirky things to do. Plus you can easily take a day trip to the Highlands like I did’. And Rachel from Beauty and the Bird (@beautyandbird) agrees. She describes Edinburgh as being ‘full of amazing culture and architecture – great for shopping and walking too’.

And the final recommendation comes from Jessica at Jessica In Your Ear (@JessInYourEar). She has picked Cambridge as ‘the perfect city break. Just an hour from London, this beautiful university town is a total gem, full of independent shops, beautiful architecture and plenty to do. Head to the Fitzwilliam Museum for a culture fix and make sure you try Afternoon Tease for brunch or cake! Visit the university colleges and hire a punt and travel down the river wrapped up in a blanket’.

I want to go there right now after reading that!

So those are my Blogger Recommended UK City Break destinations. Check back next Monday to find out which European cities get the thumbs up from my blogger friends. And tell me – where will you be heading for your next city break?
