2013-07-12

After posting my halfway recap of 2013 a few days ago, I realized that I didn’t share with you my goals and plans for the rest of 2013. I’m sharing these here for two reasons:

It keeps me accountable.

Every week (usually on Mondays) I blog here about the things I’m doing to reach my goals – this self-imposed check-in helps me to stay somewhat on track towards accomplishing the things I want to do. I use this weekly post as my own personal check-in on my progress.

You help me reach my goals.

Your comments on this ol’ blog, tweets and facebook messages really help to motivate and inspire me, and I couldn’t accomplish the things that I do without your support. As well, by sharing my goals and progress with you I have found training partners, both “virtual” and IRL.

So with that said, here are my goals for the next 6 months:

LIVE ACTIVE

This pretty much comes naturally to me – I’ve developed a circle of friends who drag me away from my desk at lunch time to work out (thanks D!), and friends that peer-pressure me into registering for races (thanks E and J!). Over the next 6 months I’ll be doing the following races:

Iron Girl Sprint Triathlon – August 11, 2013

Ontario Women’s Sprint Triathlon – September 1, 2013

Run or Dye – September 7, 2013

(I’m running this as a team with a bunch of girlfriends and I *think* we may turn this into a girl’s weekend away)

MEC Half Marathon – October 19, 2013

And I’ll also be doing two triathlon training clinics with the Ontario Women’s Triathlon – the “Transitions – Smooth and Efficient Clinic” on July 16th, and the “Putting it All Together Clinic” on August 17th. (If you live in Southern Ontario and are contemplating doing a triathlon you should totally come – these clinics are SO informative and fun!).

I’m also contemplating doing these races, though these all depend on my husband’s tolerance for my race schedule, the girls hockey schedule and various other family activities:

HEROS  (Halton’s Extreme Race and Obstacle Scramble) on August 17th

Milton Half Marathon – September 15, 2013

United Way Peel Region Run, Walk or Roll (this will likely be done on roller blades with my two oldest daughters)

EAT HEALTHY

This by far is the hardest for me. Why on earth are there so many UNHEALTHY food options around? Everywhere I look a muffin or a cookie is calling my name. Jaaaaaannnice… Jaaaaaannnice… You can hear them call me too, right?!?

Healthy eating means different things to different people, and I think part of my struggle with meeting this goal is that I haven’t defined what healthy eating is for ME. I’m going to have to think long and hard about this, and follow this up with another post. That said, the #1 goal is to adjust our family schedule and routines to allow us more time to prepare home cooked meals, new recipes etc. within my personal definition of healthy.

ENJOY LIFE

We’ve got a bunch of fun family activities planned for the next 6 months: Brooke’s birthday, my birthday, a camping weekend, a weekend at a friend’s cottage, lots of swimming in the pool, a Thanksgiving trip up to Ottawa to see my in-laws, Halloween, Amber’s 3rd birthday (and her FIRST party!), hubby’s birthday and of course there’s Christmas and all the fun that’s associated with that. It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day activities of life, and to forget how many FUN things happen among them. I’m hoping to celebrate every moment that I can with my family.

Cheers! Here’s to a great 2nd half of 2013 to each and every one of you!
