While our new to us sailboat us being redied in San Carlos, we took an overnight trip to Puerto Penasco, Mexico, the closest beach to Tucson, a little less than 5 hours drive with all our family stops. It's only another hour or so more to San Carlos. In my opinion, this place is way touristy and crowded. For sailing, there's just about nowhere to anchor, so I wouldn't bring a sailboat here. Puerto Penasco is a much bigger city, so there's more restaurants and bars and clubs and such, but we found the prices on the touristy stuff are in dollars and those prices are very high for Mexico, especially with the favorable exchange rate, which also seems worse here. The beach and water, however were great. Perfect for the kids. Our children, who can't occupy themselves for 10 minutes at home, played perfectly on the beach for hours. Celia even made a friend. Dozens and dozens of hawkers tried to sell us everything from bracelets and temporary tatoos to ice cream and paper flowers. We got a coconut with mixed fruit, chili powder, lime, and sweet chili sauce for $10, ridiculously high for Mexico, but very yummy and healthy. We're having a nice time. It has a chaotic nighttime feel with all the people and partying. That part I remember, but the place has changed so much since I was here last that don't remember anything else. I know the last time I was here I was pretty much a teenager. The memory is so dim. So much has happened since then I can't keep it all in my head. My family of four is headed to sleep altogether in one king sized bed tonight. It's pretty loud right now, but things will settle down when the kids sleep. They are exhausted from a full day, and so are we.
