Telecommunication’s giant Glo have pulled a big one over one of their biggest rivals Mtn, in what might be one of the biggest and juiciest deals of 2015.
Wizkid who has before now been an MTN ambassador has just been lured to Glo with a N120m cheque.
While other MTN ambassadors like Davido, Iyanya, Donjazzy, Dr. Sid have in the past weeks renewed their contracts with MTN, hip hop sensation Wizkid stalled as he was in talks with the competition.
The Company released a statement confirming Wizkid’s exit yesterday, alongside Timaya and Sean Tizzle, also announcing the addition of visually impaired artiste Cobahms,
“Although there is a finite number of brand ambassadors we can have at any point in time, Nigerian artistes can continue to monetize their intellectual works through our distribution channels such as the Caller Tunez and Music Plus platforms,’ the statement states. As was originally conceptualised, the ambassadorship will continually evolve to accommodate new talents and cater for diverse segments.“
This year, we are using a segmented approach and there will be ambassadors for each segment of our market. Using this criteria, new artistes like Cobhams Asuquo will be coming on board the MTN Ambassadorial fam”
Wizkid who was with the South African telecoms company for two years is one of the few celebrities who would be “porting ” from one telecoms network to another; first was actor/comedian Saka who ported from Etisalat to MTN,then Nollywood actor Mike Ezeuronye who after being dumped by GLO moved on to their rivals Airtel.
