Vacation Bible School and Holy Hour with Bishop Cistone Among Upcoming Faith Offerings
SAGINAW — Below are some of the upcoming events that will take place across the Diocese of Saginaw. Parishes are invited to include these events in their parish bulletins.
WHAT: Mass for Freedom Celebrated by Bishop Cistone
WHEN: 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30
WHERE: Holy Family Church, 1525 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw
This Mass celebrated by the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, is part of the Fortnight for Freedom, which takes place from June 21 to July 4- a time when the liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power. These martyrs include St. Thomas More, St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul and the first martyrs of the Church of Rome. The theme of this year's Fortnight will focus on the “freedom to bear witness” to the truth of the Gospel.

WHEN: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1
WHERE: St. John XXIII Parish, St. Patrick Church, 4708 S. Meridian Rd., Ryan
Since January 2012, the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, has traveled to different churches throughout the diocese to lead Holy Hours before the Blessed Sacrament. The faithful are invited to join him in praying for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we strive to do God’s will in our local Church.
WHAT: Rosary and Mass in Memory of Rev. Wolfgang Streichardt
WHEN: Rosary at 5:30 p.m. and Mass at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9
WHERE: Elsie, Mich. and Bannister, Mich.
Prayers will be offered for the soul of Rev. Wolfgang Streichardt in commemoration of the second anniversary of his death. The rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. at Father Wolf's graveside at Ford Cemetery, in Elsie, Mich. The cemetery is at the intersection of Mason Rd. and County Line Rd. in Elsie. Mass will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. at St. Cyril Church, 517 E. Main St., Bannister. Following Mass, there will be a reception (those attending should bring a dish to share if possible). WHAT: Theology on Tap - Presented by Local Catholic Parishes
WHEN: 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15
WHERE: Trillium Banquet Center, 6415 State St., Saginaw
Theology on Tap is an opportunity for adults to explore issues and topics that relate to the Catholic faith in a fun, relaxed, setting. The goal is to provide a forum for adults to learn about and discuss their faith in a relaxing social setting. Several area priests and religious will be in attendance. Cash bar and pizza are available. You must be 21 years of age or older to attend. Donations are accepted to help cover the cost of the pizza.
WHAT: Religious Sisters of Mercy’s Sacred Heart Mercy Health Care Center Open House
WHEN: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22
WHERE: 2025 W. Cheesman Rd., Alma
The Sacred Heart Mercy Health Care Center will have an open house for the public. All are welcome. Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the clinic, meet the sisters and learn about services offered. There will be children’s games from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Food and refreshments will also be provided by the Knights of Columbus Council #2966. Event parking and shuttle service will also be available at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7400 N. Begole Rd., Alma. WHAT: “Totally Catholic Vacation Bible School” Sponsored by Saginaw Area Parishes
WHEN: 9 a.m. to noon from Monday, July 20 to Friday, July 24
WHERE: St. John Vianney Church, 6400 McCarty Rd.
Saginaw area parishes have joined together to host a Vacation bible school complete with an area that resembles small town life during the time of Jesus (including a synagogue), opportunities to learn about Jesus, a petting zoo, live musical performances, “stories told by Mary” and more. This collaborative vacation bible school is sponsored by St. John Vianney Parish, St. Stephen Parish, Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, St. John Paul II Parish, Holy Spirit Parish, Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption Parish, Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary School. Those interested in registering may do so at their parishes. Registration is open to everyone including those outside of these parishes. Those with further questions may contact 989-790-5086. The vacation bible school is meant for children from ages 4 to grade 6. Cost is $20 per child ($50 maximum per family) and financial assistance is available.
WHAT: St. James All Class Reunion (1939-1971)
WHEN: Starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15
WHERE: All Saints Parish, St. James Church, 710 Columbus Ave., Bay City

WHAT: Registration Remains Open for MYE Faith Youth Event
WHEN: Event is from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015
WHERE: Saginaw Valley State University, 7400 Bay Rd., University Center
The MYE Faith youth event is a one day event in which youth encounter Christ through the Eucharist, dynamic speakers, spirit-filled prayer and more. The day will include a professionally- produced dramatic performance about the passion and resurrection of Jesus and a concert with JJ Weeks Band. Former Miss Michigan, Kelly Nieto, will also speak at the event along with other breakout session speakers. There is no fee for youth attendees and adult chaperones in the Diocese of Saginaw. Free bus transportation to and from the event and free items are available for those who register by July 10. The event is for youth in grades 8 to 12 and young adults up to 20 years of age. Registration is open to those interested in joining the group from the Diocese of Saginaw travelling to the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia from Sept. 20 to Sept. 28. The trip includes roundtrip motorcoach transportation from Saginaw to Philadelphia, hotel accommodations, registration to attend the World Meeting of Families Congress, the Papal Mass with Pope Francis on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, time for sightseeing and much more.
