WHAT: Catholic Women’s Fellowship

Meeting the first Wednesday of every month, women from around the diocese are invited to gather at the Center for Ministry for prayer, faith formation, discussion, and fellowship. WHAT: Yearly Gathering for BeFrienders and Friends- "Ministering From Our Brokenness"

Join us for a day of enrichment and reflection with diocesan employees Sister Margo Tafoya, Terri Grierson and Linda Milco and diocesan volunteer Carole Watters. In addition, there will be a special video presentation of "The Family: A Home for the Wounded Heart," by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle (his keynote address at the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia). There also will be a brief BeFriender business meeting for reports and updates from local groups and diocesan representatives. WHAT: “Accompanying and Praying with the Sick and Dying” Presented by the Rev. Jim Bessert

Many lay people in the Diocese of Saginaw generously seek to be the face of Jesus to those who are sick and dying. Some bring Holy Communion to the elderly and to those suffering from illnesses; others make frequent visits to hospitals and assisted living facilities. Please join Father Jim Bessert for a workshop especially designed to assist all of those involved in these beautiful ministries to the sick and dying. Father Bessert is the director of the Office of Liturgy for the Diocese of Saginaw and serves as sacramental minister of St. John Paul II Parish in Carrollton. Cost is $35 and includes lunch. WHAT: Lay Ministry Informational Meeting

From now until May 15, the diocesan lay ministry office will be accepting applications for those who wish to begin the Lay Ministry Formation Program in September 2016. The program is a four-year formation experience designed for lay people who wish to expand their knowledge of Scripture and Catholic theology, deepen their relationship with God, and fulfill their baptismal call by serving others. This meeting is not only for those interested in applying to Lay Ministry, but also for anyone who is interested in learning about the Lay Ministry Formation Program. WHAT: Holy Hour with Bishop Cistone in Saginaw
WHEN: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19

Since January 2012, the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, has traveled to different churches throughout the diocese to lead Holy Hours before the Blessed Sacrament. During this Jubilee Year, the intention of each monthly Holy Hour will be for a deeper understanding and participation in the Mercy of God.

All men from around the diocese are invited to gather once a month at the Center for Ministry for worship, prayer, education, discussion, and fellowship. The presentation for the Wednesday, Jan. 20 meeting is entitled, “Does Jesus Call us to be Liberal or Conservative?” with Dr. Dan Osborn. There is no cost to attend (freewill offering). WHAT: March for Life Mass Celebrated by Bishop Cistone
WHEN: 8 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21
WHERE: Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd., Shields
On Thursday, Jan. 21, hundreds of Catholic pilgrims, mostly teens, will travel via bus to Washington, D.C to participate in the 42nd annual March for Life. The group will first gather at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N River Rd., Shields, for an 8 a.m. Mass, celebrated by the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw. All are welcome at this liturgy. The Office of Communications will post photos of the pilgrims on the diocesan website: www.saginaw.org and members of the community are encouraged to follow the pilgrimage online. Photos also will be posted at the Diocese of Saginaw’s Facebook page.

The week will be an opportunity to recognize the great gift of Catholic schools to local communities. The Bishop's Ball celebrates the diverse ministries within the Diocese of Saginaw that continue the evangelizing mission of Jesus Christ. The evening features the presentation of the Bishop Murphy Award by Bishop Cistone to a person who, through the example of their life as a disciple of Jesus Christ, continually fulfills the mandate of the Gospel through word and deed. The ball also includes a silent auction, art auction, dinner and dancing. Parish and community leaders, parishioners and friends from the eleven counties served by the Diocese of Saginaw are encouraged to join in fellowship and fun during this annual event.
