Sonic the Hedgehog has had a very rough time in the past few years, but on the eve of his 25th anniversary, we might get to see the old version of him we fell in love with. Sonic Mania is one of the newer Sonic games being released, but unlike the Boom series, it looks exactly like the original SEGA Mega Drive games. Well, it’s because it is. It’s made up of older Sonic levels, along with some brand new ones that tie in with the classic style. It’s going back to the 16-bit graphics, sounds and feel. The game looks promising and so does the newly announced collector’s edition.

In this version, you’ll get the following:

A 12″ statue of Sonic standing on a Genisis console. It also has the SEGA start up sound effect.

A Metallic Collector’s Card with the download code

SEGA cartridge cast with a golden ring on it

A collector’s edition box

Altogether, the collection will set you back $69.99 and can be found on Amazon. Unfortunately you won’t be able to buy this in South Africa as Eurogamer confirmed that it’s not heading to Europe, which means we don’t get it either. While we’re on the topic of Sonic the Hedgehog, I’m currently reviewing the other Sonic game (Fire & Ice), so you can expect a review for it in the near future.
