The Stop the Crash partnership campaigning for crash avoidance technologies has been exhibiting at the London Motor Show – together with partners that included ZF TRW, Thatcham, ADAC and Denso, Continental and Bosch.
The campaign, led by Global NCAP, promotes technologies such as electronic stability control (ESC), automatic emergency braking (AEB) and anti-lock brakes (ABS). Stop the Crash supports the UN’s objective of cutting road fatalities by half by 2020 by building consumer awareness and shaping the regulation of key safety technologies across the globe.
At the 2016 London Motor Show, consumers took part in AEB demonstrations to understand the practical benefits of the technology. Peter Lake, member of the board of ZF, said: “Events like the London Motor Show enable us to educate the end consumer and help them to make the right decisions regarding the safety of their next vehicle. Technologies such as ESC and AEB are showing real world benefits.
“As pioneers of active safety technologies, ZF TRW is showing that by joining forces, we can help influence future regulation with the ambition of significantly reducing road fatalities.”
Several studies, including a recent report from IIHS, show that AEB technology has the potential to reduce insurance injury claims by as much as 35 percent. Research has also shown that ESC has helped to reduce single vehicle crashes by 30%.
