I am working with my House Insular Areas colleagues to allow the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to waive $450,000 of local cost sharing required for water resource development plans. In 2014, I added an inflation adjustment provision to the Water Resources law that raised the amount local governments do not have to pay for Army Corps projects from $200,000 to $450,000.
My fellow delegates and I wrote a letter urging the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee leaders to accept a provision in the Senate version of the Water Resources Development Act of 2016 that would extend the existing local cost-share waiver to planning assistance. The bill is in conference and could be enacted when Congress returns after the elections.
