Old Man Winter is expected to visit the Wyoming Valley tonight and through Friday night, as the region could see some snowfall and much colder temperatures.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Luzerne and Lackawanna counties from 8 p.m. tonight until noon Friday.
Snow is expected to fall this evening, and could potentially mix with rain. By midnight, the precipitation will be all snow and continue into Friday morning before stopping.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.
The forecast
The National Weather Service indicated it was 45 degrees as of 5:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-barre/Scranton International Airport, and fair skies were reported.
Clouds will increase throughout the day today, and the high will be near 52.
There will be a chance of rain before 10 p.m. tonight, followed by rain and snow between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. and snow after 1 a.m. Up to 2 inches of snow accumulation could fall, and the low will be around 32.
Snow will continue to be likely before 7 a.m. Friday, followed a chance of snow showers after noon. Less than an inch of snowfall accumulation is expected, and the high will be near 36.
Mostly cloudy skies are expected into Friday night, along with a chance of snow showers before 1 a.m. Little or no snow accumulation is expected, and the low will be around 12.
Sunny skies will return on Saturday, with a high near 24. Partly cloudy skies will follow into Saturday night, with a low around 12.
Partly sunny skies will round out the weekend on Sunday, with a high near 25. Partly cloudy skies will follow into Sunday night, with a low around 10.
