NEWTON TWP. — More than 80 local artisans, small business owners, farmers and various other vendors will gather from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20 at the Abington Heights Middle School (AHMS) for the Third Annual AHMS PTA Marketplace.

There is no admission charge, but attendees are asked to bring donations of nonperishable food and/or warm clothing items, to be distributed to families in need within the school district, via the Abington Angels program.

According to AHMS PTA Vice President Sharon Campbell, people often maintain a misconception that people in the Abington Heights School District are all well off, but that isn’t always the case.

The Abington Angels, which is run on a confidential basis by the district’s guidance department, offers assistance to families in many forms, including backpacks filled will school supplies at the beginning of each year, food baskets to help them get through Thanksgiving break without the usual presence of school lunches, warm clothing for the entire family for winter, Christmas gifts and more.

“Any need that the guidance administration sees for these families, they let us know and we do whatever we can to help,” said Campbell.

She stressed although the PTA is organizing the fundraiser, it is not keeping any of the money – all proceeds will go directly to the Abington Angels.
