• 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., a port-a-pit chicken fundraiser is being held sponsored by Smart Start of Yadkin County to benefit the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to help place books in the homes of Yadkin County’s youngest children. • Books ‘N Friends Used Bookstore will hold its semi-annual spring half-price sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m April 1 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 2. All proceeds benefit the Alleghany County Public Library build for the future. Books ‘N Friends is operated by the volunteers of the Friends of the Library.

• 10:30 a.m., a Ragtop Rally will be held to benefit the Grace Clinic, with drivers taking part in an 85-mile pleasure ride beginning on East Main Street in downtown Elkin and ending at a Yadkin Valley winery. Cost to participate is $25 per car, and all vehicles are welcome.

• 2 to 6 p.m., Foot Heels Shoe Repair, 112 E. Main St., Elkin, will have shoe repair pick-up day for those who have shoes in the store. Those picking up items must have their tickets.

The sale will be Monday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cash, credit/debit cards are accepted, as well as payroll deductions for HCMH employees.

• 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., the Elkin Police Department will host Coffee with a Cop at McDonald’s on CC Camp Road.

• 9 a.m., Chatham Nursing & Rehabilitation will host the Duncan Dash, a family and pet-friendly fun fun/walk to raise awareness for the Alzheimer’s dementia population at Elkin Municipal Park, Elkin. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with a balloon send-off ceremony at 9:45 a.m. at the starting line. The walk begins at 10 a.m. There will be several items raffled off, a hot dog cookout for donations, a bouncy house, face painting and more. Registration is free, T-shirts are $10. The Alzheimer’s Association will receive at least 75 percent of the proceeds collected.

June 11

• The Foothills 5K WetRun will be held at Elkin Municipal Park featuring various water elements soaking runners and then ending the course with a large blow-up water slide. Following the race will be a concert by Christian artists Michael Tait with Newsboys. Medals will be given out following the race as well. Runners can register at the event, or in advance at foothillswetrun.com. Proceeds benefit CauseLife and will be used to build wells, providing clean water in third-world countries.

• Friendly Consignment Store, a not-for-profit consignment shop beside the Arlington Fire Department in Jonesville, provides new and gently-used items with proceeds donated to several local charities and groups.
