• Dewey’s Bakery items will be sold by the Forbush High School Marching Band’s Boosters at Collide Church, 234 E. Main St., Yadkinville, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 2 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 13 and Dec. 20. Items sold will include sugar cake, Moravian cookies, cheese straws, gift baskets and more.

Dec. 10

• 10 a.m., Elkin Public Library, 111 N. Front St., Elkin, hosts its Book Babies program lasting 20 to 25 minutes each Thursday for children age birth to 24 months and their caregiver. They are free.

• 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Elkin High School will holds its choral concert in the Dixon Auditorium. The chorus, directed by Tonya Smith, Elkin City Schools’ choral and instrumental director, will be singing a variety of holiday selections both traditional and modern. The concert is free.

Dec. 11

• 10 a.m. for 2- and 3-year-olds; 11 a.m. for 4- and 5-year-olds, Elkin Public Library, 111 N. Front St., Elkin, hosts its Preschool Story Hour each Friday. The theme is Christmas Goodies.

Dec. 12

• 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a grapevine pruning workshop will be held including the classroom and field sessions to introduce the important concepts and key techniques related to quality assurance, crop yield and disease mitigation. The cost is $20 and will begin in the Shelton-Badgett North Carolina Center for Viticulture & Enology and move to the vineyard for the hands-on portion. • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Captain Mark Garner Post 7794 Veterans of Foreign Wars will be conducting its annual Fall food drive. VFW members will be accepting non-perishable food items at grocery and discount stores in Elkin, Jonesville, and Boonville. All donations will be used by Tri-C Ministries to help local families this holiday season.

• 2 p.m., “The Nutcracker” will be performed by Rhythm on Main dancers in the Elkin High School Dixon Auditorium, 334 Elk Spur St., with advance tickets at $8 and available for purchase at 116 E. Market St., in the chamber building Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or ROM studio, 246 E. Main St., on Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.

• 3 p.m., the class of Basic Law Enforcement Training at Surry Community College will hold its graduation in the Grand Hall of the Shelton-Badgett North Carolina Center for Viticulture & Enology, 630 S. Main St., Dobson.

Dec. 14

• 5 to 6:30 p.m., Elkin High School JROTC will host a spaghetti dinner in the cafeteria prior to the high school and middle school Christmas band concert. The money raised will allow the cadets to go to Raven Knob for rappelling and canoeing and attend competitive Raider and drill meets. • 3 to 7 p.m., a benefit spaghetti dinner for Doug and April Williams will be held at the West Yadkin VFW Post on U.S. 21. Doug Williams was injured Sept. 7 while taking down a deer stand and will not be able to return to work full-time until late 2016. The event will include a meal for donations only, an auction, silent auction and raffle. Donations will be used to help with family and medical expenses. The fundraiser is sponsored by Windsor’s Crossroads Ruritan Club, Charity Bible, Cranberry Baptist, Fishing Creek Baptist, Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist and Miller’s Creek Baptist churches. • Members of the Yadkin Valley Rotary Club are now selling tickets for the annual New Year’s Day lunch at the First United Methodist Church, 340 Hawthorne Road, Elkin. The club will serve a traditional meal of country ham, collard greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread, coffee/tea and dessert. Serving hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Quart bags of collard greens may be purchased for $5 per bag. Also, drawings for free door prizes will be held every half hour during serving hours. Must be present to win. Proceeds from the lunch will benefit the club’s scholarship program. Each year a scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior in each of the area high schools: East Wilkes, Starmount and Elkin. Recipients are chosen based on their leadership in the community. • Friendly Consignment Store, a not-for-profit consignment shop beside the Arlington Fire Department in Jonesville, provides new and gently-used items with proceeds donated to several local charities and groups. Hours are Monday and Wednesday noon to 5 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• 10 a.m., line dance class is being held each Monday at the Yadkin Valley Senior Center, 121 Delos Martin Drive, Jonesville, with Shirley Bell as instructor.
