• 2 to 4 p.m., Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care will host an open house in celebration of National Hospice Month at the Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson.

Nov. 12

• A 5k-9 5K run/walk will be held at Elkin Municipal Park, 399, N.C. 268 West, Elkin, to support a fund for those who cannot afford medical treatment for their dogs. The 5K is a senior project for an East Wilkes High School student. Registration fee is $30 and can be done at active.com. One leashed dog per participant is allowed during the 5K.

• 6 to 9 p.m., the Wilkes Art Gallery, 913 C St., North Wilkesboro, will hold a drawdown with the grand prize being an oil portrait by Kevin Aita or an original Aita painting. Other prizes will include art classes, gift certificates and more. A silent auction of items donated by local merchants also will be held during the drawdown. • 7 p.m., Parkwood Place retirement community on Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin, will host Tim Baker, an Elvis Presley impersonator who lives in Elkin. Baker is a former employee of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, and his wife Alice works at the hospital still. The concert is free to the public.

Those showing a military ID will get one hot dog free. Bingo will cost $25 for 20 games. There will be door prizes, and a raffle for a Yeti cooler. All proceeds will be used to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and special programs provided by the Children’s Center of Yadkin.

The gallery’s normal hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibit will run through Dec. 23.

• 5 to 9 p.m., Downtown Elkin will host Light Up Night to kick off the holiday season. The evening begins with the children’s lantern parade from the parking lot of Rhythm on Main at 6:30 p.m. to the front of Reeves Theater. Santa Claus will be available at the Barking Coyote for visits with children and family, and horse and buggy rides will be available along Main Street until 9 p.m. Local dance studios will host a special showcase beginning at 7:15 p.m. in the parking lot beside The Liberty building, or inside The Liberty’s Coley Hall as a back-up for weather. The library will be doing children’s activities beginning at 4 p.m., and the Foothills Arts Council will hold its Open Air Art Market as well.
