ROCKINGHAM — Special Agent Jessica Cadwallader of the State Bureau of Investigation will lead a community workshop on methamphetamine awareness Tuesday, Feb. 23 in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, 410 E. Washington St.

Connections Family Support and Community Collaboration Program is hosting the workshop, which is planned from noon to 1:30 p.m. Cadwallader works in the SBI’s Clandestine Laboratory Response Unit.

Richmond County ranked third among North Carolina’s 100 counties for having the highest number of meth lab busts in 2015. Cadwallader will be discussing what methamphetamine is, how it is made and used and the consequences and dangers of long-term use. She will also discuss the signs and symptoms of use and the legal ramifications for users and their families.

Family members and any providers and professionals working with children, such as teachers, social workers, case managers, therapists, counselors and court counselors are encouraged to attend. Space is limited and organizers ask participants to register in advance by Feb. 19.

Resources and lunch will be provided at no charge.

Connections Family Support and Community Collaboration Program is funded by Sandhills Center and contracted through the National Alliance on Mental Illness in North Carolina.
