DOBSON — The appointment of two new assistant principals were announced this week for Surry County Schools.

The Board of Education was left with a few spots to fill as usual this summer thanks to some retirements and one principal wanting to take a year off to further his own education.

That left others moving around like a game of musical chairs. The latest seats taken are at Rockford and White Plains elementary schools.

Renee Bowman will take over as the Rockford assistant principal, while Kelly Waters takes the White Plains job.

Bowman received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Appalachian State University in 1991 and a master of education in reading from Salem College.

In 2011, she received a certification in school administration from ASU. She has 15 years of experience as a classroom teacher and teacher coach in the Stokes County school district.

Waters goes to White Plains with 13 years of experience. Her most recent position was assistant principal at C.C. Wright Elementary in Wilkes County.

She has a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and a master of arts degree in educational media. She received a graduate certification in school administration from ASU in 2014.

The new positions are effective Aug. 1. Kids return to school Aug. 29 this yer.
