CLAUDVILLE, Va. — The Rev. Tony Goins, a native of Surry County, recently accepted an assignment as pastor of Mountain View Pentecostal Holiness Church in Claudville.

Goins is a Mount Airy resident who entered the ministry after retiring as a captain with the city fire department in 2000.

He was born and raised in the Flat Rock area by Thomas and the late Ruth Elizabeth Goins and graduated from North Surry High School.

Goins and his wife Kim lived in Mount Airy from April 1979 until October 2005 and had a singing ministry for 25 years (The Goins Family).

He accepted his call to preach in 2001 and graduated from Vintage Bible College in 2005.

During their time in Mount Airy, the Goinses attended Mount Airy First Pentecostal Holiness Church, holding many leadership roles there.

In 2001, Tony and Kim Goins were music ministers of Calvary Assembly of God, and after accepting the call to preach, they assisted in a church plant with The Church of the Living God in Pfafftown, where he was ordained.

Goins also assisted in building the conference headquarters for The Church of The Living God and the ministry is still striving today.

In 2005, Goins was ordained with the Cornerstone Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC), leading to a move to Lenoir to pastor Lenoir Pentecostal Holiness Church.

In July 2012, the Goinses moved to Hamptonville, where Goins pastored Longtown Pentecostal Holiness Church, and another relocation, to Greensboro, occurred in March 2014 when he became pastor of New Life Worship Center, remaining there until this year.

In May of 2015, the couple had moved back to Mount Airy.

“We are excited about what God is doing at Mountain View Pentecostal Holiness Church and we are looking for great things to happen,” its new pastor said of the church located at 497 Hatchers Chapel Road in Claudville.

“Our ministry at Mountain View includes all ages. Our children ministry is growing. We have Vacation Bible School plans in the making along with other ministries to enhance our children’s ministry. Our teens and young adults are excited about God’s plan for our church,” added Goins.

“We have a wonderful senior program, and will be expanding the various ministries as time goes on. We also have great music, which includes accompaniment by acoustical guitars, bass guitar, drums, piano and lovely voices that sing God’s praises.”

The new pastor shares a vision of Mountain View Pentecostal Holiness Church serving as a “healing center” for spiritual and emotional needs through its ministry, and seeks to continue the church mission of making a community and global impact through Christ’s message.
