Ok, time for a little butt kicking today. You might love this post.. or find it a little uncomfortable. Either way, here we go:

Never in the history of the world has it been easier (and less expensive) to start a digital lifestyle business.

Heck, we have people in the 6FKC who have had a book ghostwritten, cover designed, laid-out and uploaded to Amazon… then become a best-seller within 3 days for about $75 (including having the book written!!).

That’s right – less than $100 bucks and their book was done and SELLING online. Often making that initial $100 back in as few as 48 hours.

But there was one person who was complaining that he found a great writer, but the writer wanted $125. He wanted tips to negotiate with the writer to get him down anther $20.. I gave him a loving (but firm) blasting… after all, we are talking about having an entire friggin book written for you for just $125. This is an INVESTMENT in your business.

Tell me another business that can be started for such a low price and have the potential to make you money month after month?

Maybe it’s because I’m 41, but I remember how much it cost to start my personal training business over 20 years ago.

There was no elance. No 99designs. And certainly no Fiverr.

I had to go into the Yellow Pages (remember those??) to find a guy to create my logo. He worked from the back of an art/frame shop (I couldn’t make this up if I tried). And it cost me probably $400 or so (that was around a week’s worth of pay for me at the time).  Then, all the other stuff I did like print flyers, postcards, etc… it cost me probably $1,500.

At that time, I also looked into starting my own gym. Even a low-budget one would have cost around $25K plus a personal guarantee for 3-5 years of rent. And that would have been super-low budget with a simple rubber flooring, some mirrors and used fitness equipment.

Now – fast forward to today.. you can literally start an online business for no money (like a Facebook Continuity program).

But even if you want to spend $100… you could easily get a domain name and a very basic WordPress site up. Drive some free traffic by blogging, youtube, social media, article writing, etc – and you’re in business.

And even with start-up costs less than $100, there are some people who say they simply don’t have it. Ok, I get it, there are a lot of people struggling to pay the bills. Hey, I’ve been there and it wasn’t that long ago for me.

However, you have to ask yourself one question…

HOW BADLY DO YOU WANT IT?

You don’t have any money? None at all? Not even $100?

Since I consider myself a realist… here’s a dose of reality for you.

First step, look through everything you own. That’s right, take a full inventory.

I’m talking furniture, books, dvds, clothes, old kids toys, etc. Leave no stone unturned.

Do you really need that bookshelf? Or desk?

Heck, depending on the quality, I bet you could put your desk on Craigslist today and sell it for a quick $100 or so. Then, just go back to craigslist and you’ll see a section called “free” where people are giving away their current desks.

You sell yours for $100 and either pick up a free one (or work from the library, your kitchen table or your lap on the floor!). You’ll also be able to get some clutter out of your life.

Or you eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the next week to save money.

Or you shut off your cable.

Or get a different plan for your cell phone.

Or, you do what a friend of mine did when he was down on his luck… you swallow your pride and deliver pizza at night. Or walk your neighbors dog and scoop up their sh*t if that’s what it takes.

I worked my ass off for years getting up at 5am to train a client BEFORE I went to my full-time job. Then, trained clients after work (and at night, took graduate classes for a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology). And in my spare minutes, I started building my Internet business.

You sacrifice short-term and do what is necessary so you can live a better life, long-term.

You stop making excuses.

You stop whining.

When a barrier is put up in front of you – you run right through it…. and you never, ever look back.

But first, you have to put things in perspective and appreciate the positives. Despite it being a far from perfect world – we are all blessed to live in the times we do. Becoming financially independent has never been easier – but the window of opportunity will not stay open forever. I say that because as more people discover how simple it is to create a lifestyle digital business, the competition will increase.

It’s why I tell my clients over and over again.

Get focused. Get serious. Sacrifice, if necessary. And get going… FAST.

Coach Lee, out.
