It’s official - ‘Justice League Dark’ is going a bit darker.
No, not the live-action ‘Justice League Dark’ movie which
began life with Guillermo del Toro - we’re talking about the new DC Universe Animated
Original Movie, which will be led by none other than Matt Ryan as John
Constantine.
That’s right - TV’s Constantine is returning for the
animated film.

Appearing online via IGN, the Official ‘Justice
League Dark’ trailer gives us an impressive look at DC’s latest animated
offering. But it’s no mere cartoon. After the success of ‘Batman: The Killing
Joke’ - DC’s latest animated feature film - it looks as though ‘Justice League
Dark’ is going to be getting the same R-Rated treatment.
And that seems like a pretty good fit.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Justice League Dark finds the world under attack from
supernatural forces that prompts the Justice League’s Batman to seek aid from
occult investigator John Constantine. Constantine forms a team of other
supernatural superheroes - Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon
- to help save the world.”
Of course, this is not to be confused with the upcoming
live-action project, which currently has ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ director Doug Liman
at the helm, and is expected to begin filming next year under the new title, ‘Dark
Universe’.
‘Justice League Dark’ also has a pretty impressive voice
cast, starring Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, Jerry O’Connell as Superman, and
Jason O’Mara as Batman. They’re also joined by Alfred Molina as Destiny, Jeremy
Davies as Ritchie, Camilla Luddington as Zatanna, Nicholas Turturro as Deadman,
Ray Chase as Etrigan, and Enrico Colantoni as the villainous Felix Faust. Roger
R. Cross will voice both Swamp Thing and John Stewart, while Matt Ryan returns
to the role of John Constantine following the short-lived TV show.
Jay Oliva directed the animated movie based on a script by J.M.
DeMatteis and Ernie Altbacker.
‘Justice League Dark’ heads to Digital as well as DVD and
Blu-ray in 2017.
