Chateau Class C Motorhome Reviews
Once a product of the well-known Four Winds RV brand, the Citation and Chateau Class C motorhomes are now two separate products for Thor Motor Coach (TMC). Called North America’s most popular brand, TMC is a result of the merger of Four Winds, Damon, and Mandalay RV companies. Thor manufactures two Class C motorhomes, the Four Winds and the Chateau, and both brands are manufactured in a “Super C” motorhome model. The Chateau Super C model is the newest model to debut in the “Super C” class for TMC.
Manufacturing the Chateau in nine floorplans, TMC markets their Class C motorhomes as having more living areas than most Class A motorhomes. The floorplans offer exterior lengths from 23’ 11” to 32’ 7”, have interior heights of 82”, and exterior heights of 10’ 10”. The new 2014 Chateau Class C 31A Bunkhouse model features a cap over bunk, separate queen sleeping area and a full kitchen galley with a 6 cubic-foot refrigerator, a 3 burner gas stove, and a pantry. The new floorplan layout for the Chateau 26A Class C model includes a compact layout with a walk-around queen bed slide.
The Chateau Class C motorhomes are built on a Ford or Chevy Chassis with a 6.8L V10 (Ford) or 6.0L V8 (Chevy) gas engine. The Chateau Super C is constructed with a Ford F-550 Super Duty Chassis and a PowerStroke 6.7L, V8 diesel engine. Called a Super C – due in part to the power this diesel pusher offers – the Chateau Super C boasts 300 HP and 660 lbs.-foot of torque and a total GVRW of 19,500 lbs. The Chateau Super C diesel model is manufacturered in one floorplan and called the Chateau Super C 33SW. Much like its “sister ship”, the Four Winds Super C 33SW, this is a brand new coach for TMC. It measures 34’ 6” in length and the full-wall slideout provides a private king bed sleeping area. Thor designed the Chateau and Four Winds Super C coaches to provide increased towing capacity, additional maneuverability, and comfort while both driving and living in the coach, something often missing in the larger Class A and C motorhomes.
