It is not every day that you get invited to a book launch and what a privilege it is to listen to the author thank those people who made their book a reality. Often it takes a lot of sweat, tears and even blood to produce a book. Although in the case of a recipe book I would think it also added a few kilograms as well.

The venue for this book launch was the truly spectacular Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine situated in cold Hilton which is just above Pietermaritzburg in Kwazulu-Natal.  Jackie Cameron was launching her new book “Baking with Jackie Cameron” which is sure to meet with great success as her first book did (Jackie Cameron Cooks at Home).

Jackie Cameron

What a launch it was! Two large tables groaned with food and all the items were created from the recipes in the book. What I was interested to discover, when Jackie Cameron spoke about the new book, was that the food was made by friends and family members for the launch. One of the recipes was even made by someone who had never baked before!

The recipes inside Baking with Jackie Cameron are cherished family recipes that have been given a twist to make them new again eg Granadilla meringue tart and Carrot cake with chocolate. The book covers biscuits, breads, pies, quiches, celebration cakes and desserts.

Tasting is believing and everything I had was so moreish. I especially loved the coffee millionaire (billionaire) slice – oh my! So much so that I didn’t take a photo of it as I was enjoying it too much.

So if you love recipe books (as I do) and creating new baked goods to treat your family, then you must get to your closest book store and buy Baking with Jackie Cameron.

The books retails for R297 at Exclusive Books.
