This is a copy of the weekly newsletter from the Australian Running Calendar sent by email on July 16th 2013 covering interesting articles, recently updated event pages, and events coming up over the next two weeks.

Christopher McDougall, Caballo Blanco and Scott Jurek
Christopher McDougall's book "Born to Run" made Scott Jurek and Caballo Blanco world famous. The Guardian's Running Blog caught up with Christopher recently and, if you've read the book, it makes for some interesting reading.

I'd always wondered what happened in subsequent years after the race in the book and it's touched on briefly in the interview, which also reveals Caballo has since died. A quick Google found this interview at Runners World which talks to Scott Jurek about Caballo after he'd passed.

And finally, Sarah Lavender Smith at The Runner's Trip writes about going along to an interview session with Scott Jurek. It didn't turn out to be the world's best interview, but there's some interesting stuff in there. Read more here.

The Oatmeal on running
Matthew Inman is a web comic writer better know as "The Oatmeal", and he is also a runner. He published a fairly long comic today called "the terrible and wonderful reasons why I run long distances", and finishes at the end with some additional non-comic information about his running. Read the comic online here.

iRunFar on Cramping
Cramping, or more specifically, exercise-associated muscle cramping (EAMC), is as much a part of the ultra experience as GU and handhelds. Yet, it is remarkable how little The Communities - both the scientific and ultra - truly know about cramping. Read more.

There are too many updates since the last newsletter to list them all here without it becoming a bit overwhelming, so check out the website homepage for the most recently updated listings. There's a brief summary of the update and you can click to view the event listing.
