This week's newsletter (November 5th 2013) covers advertising opportunities, interesting articles, current competitions and competition winners, recent updates and events coming up over the next two weeks.

If you are an event organiser looking to use our display advertising on the website next year (the image ads you see on the right side of each page) then get in quick to secure your space.

We have 2 spaces available from March 1st and it generally pays to book up to six months in advance (4 of the 6 spaces are sold out year round, leaving just 2 spaces for everyone else).

See the advertising page for more information and email me to book your ad space.

Older runners and recovery
I've recently shared articles about Ed Whitlock, the fast 82 year old marathoner, and Fauja Singh, the world's oldest marathoner who recently retired from races. Fitting in with this theme of older runners, Ultra 168 posted an article about older runners and recovery by Canberra-based running coach, Hanny Allston. Read the article here.

The Marathon Runner as Couch Potato
Someone can train for a marathon and simultaneously qualify as a couch potato, recent research shows, raising provocative questions about how sedentary most of us really are. Read more.

How to be a marathon and half-marathon pacemaker
I ran the Auckland Marathon on Sunday and the 4 hour pace group caught up to me with about 300 metres to go and I managed to just keep ahead of the pack. The pacer was awesome with his words of encouragement to his group in that last minute or so.

This article over at the Guardian's Running Blog by a half marathon pacer is slightly mis-titled and talks more about pacing in general than being a pacer, but it's still a useful read.

Toilet Map
This one's a useful website, not an interesting article. I found it this morning when loading up a new event. It has a map of public toilets around New Zealand which can help you out when planning long runs so you know where they're at. I had a quick look in my area and it appears to be reasonably accurate. Go to www.toiletmap.co.nz to have a go.

photos4sale Event Photos
We have four "all your photos packages" valued at $29 each to give away for the Speights West Coaster and Rotorua Running Festival - that's two for each event. Enter the competition by Sunday.
