This is a copy of the weekly newsletter from the New Zealand Running Calendar sent by email on April 2nd 2013 covering our competition winner, interesting articles, events with entries opening, recently updated event pages and events coming up over the next two weeks.

Ruun is a sports bra specialist in Newmarket, Auckland and ran a competition to win the sports bra of your choice, valued up to $109. The winner was Dawn Tuffery. For more information about the range of sports bras available, visit the Ruun website.

The Mouth of the South (aka Matt Bixley) "previews" this weekend's Wild Turkey Off Road Marathon and Half Marathon at Whatipu in Auckland. It's more of a rant at nimbys not wanting to allow the full Hillary Trail event to go ahead than a race preview but a good read. Read it here on the Back Country Runner website.

3 News ran a story about Cory Newman who has cerebral palsy. He thought the kids triathlons were no go, but thanks to his best mate Tom Duncan he was able to compete. Read the article here.

Yahoo7 Lifestyle asked "Should I run with music" and offers both sides of the argument for the following questions: what's the big deal about running with music; do some runners need music more than others; people say running clears their heads, how does music affect this; when running on a treadmill, is music necessary; what about races that feature music on the course; how can runners use music to their best advantage. Read the article here.

And in the crazy news department, The Mayalysian Insider looked at 5 weird and wacky endurance sports: bog snorkelling; horse surfing; mountain bike chariot racing; wine fuelled marathon running (I have heard of this particular event before); and man versus horse marathon. Read the details here.

Entries for the Adidas Auckland Marathon events open at midnight tonight. From memory, last year the Half Marathon sold out in about a week and Marathon about three weeks. If you intend to enter these events you really should do it tomorrow. Event website.

The Broderick Print North Shore Marathon, also in Auckland, is having a half price special which runs until tomrrow (Wednesday April 3rd) at midday. So get in quick for a cheap price if you want to enter it. Event website. There are also half marathon, 10km and 5km events.

The Burgen Tough Guy and Gal Challenge has opened for entries. There are events in Wellington, Auckland, Palmerston North and Rotorua. Read the press release and visit the website for more details and to enter.

Entries for the Blackmores Xterra Trail Run Series in and around Auckland have now opened. As usual they have a series pack worth $200 when entering the full series. Event website.

Total Sport also appear to be setting up another trail series through the winter in Auckland this year called the inov-8 trail run/walk night series on 6 Wednesday nights between 29 May and 21 August. Keep an eye on their website for more information.

Excluding online entries mentioned above, updates since last week include adding some upcoming events on Waiheke Island; and next event dates for the Coatesville Classic, Rabbit Island Rampage, In the Footsteps of the Marines, Motatapu, Why Women Run, Clyde to Alexandra Road Races, Triple Peaks Challenge and the St James Mountain Marathon.

See the website homepage for all the updates made in the last few days. There's a brief summary of the update and you can click to view the event listing.
