Saucony Issues Challenge
This September, inspired by National Childhood Obesity Awareness month,Saucony and Fleet Feet Sports are issuing the Saucony Run4Good Challenge to runners nationally to generate awareness and grants for community youth running programs.
Boston Marathon Registration to Open
Registration for the 2014 Boston Marathon, with a field size at 36,000 official entrants, will open on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. ET. The B.A.A. will use the same process to register qualified runners as it used in the 2012 and 2013 Marathons, allowing the fastest qualifiers to register first. Registration will be held entirely online.
The Cowtown Marathon Nets Honor
The Cowtown Marathon CALF Program announced that they are a finalist in the 2013, “Aetna Voices of Health,” national campaign. Voting for the campaign takes place through October 13. Aetna will award $30,000 to the group that gets the most online votes and $20,000 to the second-place finisher. All of the finalists promote wellness locally by fighting conditions like asthma, diabetes and childhood obesity, which hit people of color at higher rates.
ACTIVE Network’s Couch-to-5K App Earns Positive Ratings
ACTIVE Network’s award-winning Couch-to-5K® App is ranked no. 2 on Google Play’s list of Top Paid Apps for Health and Fitness. The program requires users to dedicate 30 minutes, three days a week for real life training. Couch-to-5K® won an Appy Award for Best Healthcare & Fitness App in 2012, and has received a 4-star rating.
Firefighters Run Emerald City
First Due Endurance Racing brought its unique “Run For Fallen Heroes” relay team to the Emerald City Half and Quarter Marathon on August 25, 2013. The charity run featured at least two three-man relay teams of firefighters in full gear who competed in the 13.1-mile half marathon to raise money for the children of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, 19 firefighters who died battling a wildfire in Arizona.
New Balance to Open Store
New Balance announced the opening of its inaugural New Balance Life Store in Burlington, MA, offering a wide array of styles from the New Balance family of brands under a “Walk. Run. Live.” mantra.
Colfax Marathon’s Government Cup Relay present Awards
The Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon awarded $50,000 in charitable donations to winning teams in the 2013 Corporate and Government Cup Marathon Relay.
Joplin Memorial Run Registration Open
Registration for the 2014 Joplin Memorial Run opened September 1. The 2014 event will take place on May 10, and will again consist of a half marathon, 5k and kids run. Pricing for the event will be at its lowest now through October 31, 2013.
Portland Marathon Fills
The Portland Marathon, to be held October 6, closed its public entries on August 18. This is the fourth year the event has sold out both the full and half marathon events. The Portland Marathon Half sold out and closed in January. Charity entries are still available until September 15. Early registration for the 2014 Portland Marathon Half and Portland Marathon begins September 10.
