Some big throws yesterday in Minsk, Belarus.Nadezhda Ostapchuk took the world leader away from Valerie Adams, who threw 21.11m on Tuesday, with her 21.58m on Wednesday. The women's shot put has been between Adams and Ostapchuk for some time now, this huge throw will open some eyes, and make the women's shop put even more of a battle between these two great throwers.

MINSK (BLR, Jul 18): Belarus throwers again showed increased shape just before the main
event of the year with two world leading marks. At International meet in Minsk for the
memory of past top Belarus athletes Oksana Menkova achieved new national record and
second best ever 78.69 in the hammer. "I was not preparing specially for this meet,
It was for me part of my training plans. The main event will be the olympics and
I want to be ready to fight with all the best in the world. It is difficult to predict,
it could be that high result level will be needed to win or it could be also lower because
of the nerves in such a big competition," said Menkova for Belarus federation website.
Her series: f-73.70-78.69-f-72.43-74.00. Another top mark of the day was 21.58 shot put
national record and world leader for Nadezhda Ostapchuk. She started with first national
record 21.47, achieved the another record in second round then a foul was registered,
she passed remaining 3 throws. It is the best throw in the world since 1998 when
Viktoriya Pavlysh achieved at European Championships in Budapest 21.69 m. Andrei
Mikhnevich started his season with 20.90 in men shot put. Men hammer winner Yuriy
Shayunov got 76.53. Yelena Kievich won the 200 m in 23.17 (-0.9), Marina Arzamasava
4:15.99 in the 1500 m and Veronika Shutkova leaped to 656 (-0.8) long jump. Belarus
clocked 44.22 in the women 4x100 m and Ivan Trotskiy 39:48.8 in the 10 000 m walk.
Ostrava stadium old tribune demolished
OSTRAVA (CZE): The eastern stands (opposite the main tribune) of the Ostrava Municipal
Stadium that welcomed its first spectators almost 90 years ago for the first time were
demolished on Monday. Long awaited reconstruction of the stadium is in a full swing now.
Building of brand new stands with covered seats will start in August 2012. In June 2013,
the spectators of the 52nd IAAF World Challenge Ostrava Golden Spike will already
experience new stands with all the necessary surroundings. Total expected costs of all
works are EUR 18 million. "The main objective of the City of Ostrava is to support the
tradition of the top athletics. The stadium reconstruction is a crucial condition for
organizing top international events in athletics in the near future," emphasized City
of Ostrava Vice-Mayor Martin Štěpánek, who is also a member of the Ostrava bidding team
for European Team Championships in 2014. "We need a high standard sporting background
to succeed for example in our aims to organize European Athletics Team Championships
in 2014 as well as in Ostrava Golden Spike's ambition to become the part of the IAAF
Diamond League." Another long term plan of the City is to consider the bid for IAAF
Continental Cup 2018. Total capacity after full reconstruction will be 15 000. In
next two years new track, lightening system, inner and outer monitoring system,
video boards, top standard media centre, including at least one TV studio, new
box offices, family tribunes, handicapped spectators dedicated areas and much
more is expected to please not only sport fans in Ostrava.

double at the International meet here 10.29 (0.0) and 20.54 (-1.4). Fast hurdles
for world indoor medalist Pascal Martinot-Lagarde 13.45 (-0.1) over US Fred
Townsend 13.47. Romain Mesnil cleared 570 in the pole vault and Nicolas Gomont

GENT (BEL, Jul 18): The 22ste Gentse Feestenmeeting saw windy sprints by British athletes.
Deji Tobais won the 200 m in 20.67 (+3.0) and was second in the 100 m 10.31 (+2.7).
This race was won by Sean Safo-Antwi 10.19 (his legal best is 10.57). US women win
for Aisha Praught in the steeple 9:56.18 and Israeli Jillian Schwartz in the pole vault 441.

London Samsung Diamond League meeting. Chicherova said she had trouble adjusting to the
cold and rainy conditions but added that she will be ready for any weather conditions
during the Olympic Games.
BARCELONA (ESP): Jamaica's head coach to the 14th IAAF World Junior Championships,
Michael Dyke, believes the country could have won more medals if the Jamaica Athletics
Administrative Association (JAAA) had in place a proper mechanism to guide the young
athletes after their school season was completed. "Just don't leave it up to the
schools, but I think the association will have to step in and put a better system
in place where that is concerned." Dyke was quoted by The Jamaica Gleaner.
NEW DELHI (IND): The six Indian women athletes, who were caught for steroid doping last
year, lost their case in the Court of Arbitration for Sports in Lausanne, Switzerland
as it upheld the IAAF's appeal to impose two-year ban on them.The CAS on Tuesday
decided the case in favour of the IAAF and the athletes will
serve a two year ban according to Hindustantimes.com.
LONDON (GBR): The BBC announced it has signed a deal with the International Olympic
Committee (IOC) for rights to cover the next four Olympic Games up until 2020.
The present deal expired after London 2012, with the new deal including exclusive
television, radio and digital rights. "As the host of the London 2012 Olympic Games
and the birthplace of many Olympic sports, the UK is a very important nation
for the Olympic Movement," said Jacques Rogge, President of the IOC.
LONDON (GBR): Sebastian Coe, the London 2012 chairman, made an unscheduled appearance in the Olympic Village for the first of what will be 204 Welcoming Ceremonies at
the Games. The two-strong British Virgin Islands team received the

MONACO (MON): A life-size ice sculpture of a runner, a giant birthday cake decked
with images of the IAAF Hall of Fame athletes, and the unveiling of a
commemorative postage stamp were the centre pieces of a wonderful party
hosted in the gardens of the Palace in Monaco on the occasion of the 100th birthday
of the IAAF. HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, who is Honorary President of the
International Athletic Foundation (IAF) and President of the Fédération Monégasque
d'Athlétisme, welcomed the IAAF party which was led by President Lamine Diack
and his Vice-Presidents, and included representatives of the 17 founding
Member Federations, pole vaulting queen and Monaco resident Yelena Isinbayeva,
her coach Evgeniy Trofimov, and the staff of IAAF Headquarters, whose offices have
been located in the Principality since October 1993.
