Andrea and Sarah of Cherry Blossom Events are die-hard fans of Chip and Joanna Gaines — much like the rest of America. Since events are their forte, the creative duo decided to host a party for the Season 4 premiere of Fixer Upper. (A Sip, Socialize, and Shiplap Soiree — love it!) They say, “As event designers, planning an event for your girlfriends is something we don’t do enough of. So we took this opportunity to celebrate shiplap and drink wine with a girls night in.”
Sarah’s recently renovated basement was the perfect setting, as the finishes were inspired by the show’s signature style. They added in custom details from calligrapher Saffron Avenue, ensuring Joanna’s detailed and layered style was seen through the party. For more ideas on creating a similar event at your home, follow their top tips:
1. Think about elements you would have at any party and how to personalize them to that event. In this case, a fabulous cheese board is a must at any Wisconsin gathering — so to fit with the Joanna style, we went with a marble display board and highlighted the cheese types with calligraphy by Saffron Avenue.
2. Every great party has a take home favor. In this case we appealed to the guests sweet tooth by featuring a delicious cupcake by local baker Creative Confections. We drew inspiration from Joanna’s Magnolia Flour bakery and loved featuring the quote featured on their bakery wall “Cupcakes are muffins that believed in miracles” on the display along with personalized boxes for each guest.
3. To personalize the space, we knew we wanted to bring in a custom throw pillow to tie the event design into the room. Featuring a marble backdrop and more of Saffron Avenue’s calligraphy – “always shiplap” seemed fitting and a great new addition to Sarah’s home.
