How to Enter, Rules and Judging criteria

The Competition Brief

DesignSpark and LPRS invite you to take part in our Internet of Things based competition.  Entrants are required to post their ideas for an IoT based application using the LPRS eRIC modules. The application could solve an existing problem or it could be a completely new invention. The entries must be concept based around an application for the IoT which uses LPRS’ eRIC modules and a gateway. The application could solve an existing problem or it could be a completely new invention.

Making and Entry

The competition is hosted within the DesignShare Idea’s section, to make an entry, simply log into DesignSpark, navigate to DesignShare Idea’s and add your idea using the “Suggest an Idea” button.

You can add as much information as you like.  You can also add images and video to help explain your idea.

Judging

During the completion, the community are invited to vote for their favourite ideas. The top 20 voted ideas will receive a limited edition eRIC development kit.

In January 2015, the judging panel will invite five entries (out of all the entries) to take part in a Google Hangout to explain their ideas in more detail. This will be available for all customers to watch live.  A recorded version will also be made available.

The Winning Prize

The final winner will be chosen and notified by the end of January.  Their concept will be developed and created into a real working product and sold via RS Components under the LPRS Brand. Winners will receive a commission on sales of the finished product for an agreed period.

Terms and Conditions

Application requirements for eligibility:

All entries are submitted on the understanding that the winning entry will be produced by LPRS under open source licences and the final design will be made available on the DesignSpark website.

Who May Enter?

To enter you must be: a registered member of DesignSpark; any individual or group of individuals age 18 and over as of the date of entry.

This competition is not open to employees of RS Components, Allied Electronics, Elektor and LPRS or their immediate families.

This competition is not open to anyone living in a country, province, or state where the Contest is prohibited, taxed, or otherwise restricted (for example prohibits unregistered contests or requires the Contest Sponsor to post a bond) under national, federal, provincial, state and local laws, rules, or regulations.

Voting for the awards of the 20 Eric Radio Dev kits will end GMT on December 18th 23:59 GMT

An entry can receive votes as soon as it is published.

Your “Entry” refers collectively to your idea posted on DesignSpark.  Feel free to support your entry with diagrams, images and video’s.

Participants may enter more than one idea.

Entries will only be accepted in English, German, Japanese, Traditional and Simplified Chinese.

Criteria for judging

20 Eric Radio Dev Kits

Kits will be awarded to the top 20 voted ideas by registered members of the DesignSpark community through the use of the ‘like’ functionality.  In the event of a draw the winner will be chosen by the Contest Administrator whose decision is final. Members can vote for more than one entry, but can only once for each entry.

Winners will be notified by e-mail by 31st January 2015.  If a winner fails to respond within 15 days of notification, an alternative winner will be selected by the Contest Administrator. Prizes are not transferable.  Prizes will be sent to winners within 60 days.

Main Prize

The judges will choose their 5 favourite ideas from all entries made by January 31st 2015, based on the following criteria;

Commercial Viability

Cost of Production

Feasibility

Perceived Demand

These 5 entrants will be invited to pitch their idea to a panel of Judges.  The Judges will choose one winner on the basis of the above criteria and quality of presentation.

A product design based upon the winning entry will be designed and produced in conjunction with RS’ partners and LPRS.

LPRS and the winner will agree terms relating to royalties from sales.

Legal Considerations

All Participants and winners agree that creating an idea on DesignShare constitutes agreement to the terms and conditions of the Entry rules.

Entries made on the DesignSpark will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of Entry. In the event of a dispute, potential winners may be required to provide proof that the potential winner is the authorized account holder of the e-mail address associated with the potentially winning Entry.

By completing an entry on DesignShare, the Participant certifies that the Idea entered in the Contest is their own work, or that they have written legal permission from the property owner. Furthermore, they have read and understand the complete rules of the Contest and agree to abide by them.

By accepting a prize, Participants consent to the use by RS and LPRS of their name, photograph and/or likeness and statements made by or attributed to them, in perpetuity, in any and all media now known or hereafter developed (including, without limitation, print, broadcast, and Internet), for all legitimate business purposes including advertising and promotional activities without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.

The Contest Administrator is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry of information including, but not limited to, technical malfunctions, human error, lost/delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof, Entry materials that have been tampered with, or e-mail or mail-in entries that are illegible, late, lost, damaged, postage due, or misdirected. The Contest Administrator is not responsible for any injury or damage to the Participant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any material in this Contest. Entries that have been tampered with or altered are void.

The Contest Administrator reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend this Contest if it becomes technically corrupted or if for any reason the Internet portion of the program is not capable of running as planned.

RS Components/DesignSpark is a facilitator of this competition only, and is not part of any contract between the winner and LPRS

Use of the DesignSpark website is governed by its terms of use and storage and use of participants’ personal information is governed by the privacy policy

Any legal agreements elated to the main prize, including around intellectual property rights in the design, will be between the winner and LPRS.
