Plot/Story/Ad: Star Wars: Horizons is an original character driven writing and roleplaying adventure that explores the Star Wars saga in a new and exciting way through collaborative storytelling and an immersive roleplaying experience. We pride ourselves on our excellent community of writers, editors, and storytellers, and we care deeply about the growth of our members as writers, roleplayers, and connoisseurs of all things Star Wars. We offer a unique experience in the form of our linear timeline and canon-only storyline (that means we're working with new material like The Clone Wars, and not the Expanded Universe of Legends. In this way, we are new and different giving longtime roleplayers and Star Wars fans alike a fresh perspective into this beloved franchise.

The storyline of Horizons begins roughly a month after the Battle of Endor, in a time where the galaxy is torn by Civil War. The Emperor is dead and Darth Vader with him, and with their defeat the Rebellion has gained a resurgence of hope and named themselves the New Republic (the very one mentioned in The Force Awakens' opening crawl). It's a period rife with storytelling opportunities in that, for once, the Rebellion and the Galactic Empire are on equal footing. Both sides are uncertain, and we hope to explore that uncertainty in our storylines. With plans to go beyond this period and the Battle of Jakku (a year after Endor), we hope in time to bridge the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

Other Notes: Unlike many other Star Wars writing and roleplaying sites, we're working in the new Star Wars canon and not the Legends Expanded Universe. That means we're working with brand new material--from the popular show Rebels to novels like Claudia Gray's Lost Stars--and incorporating it into our story at large. Each and every week we have new material arriving from Lucasfilm (and even partners like Marvel Comics) that we can utilize and riff off of in our stories. While some may be sad to see Legends go, as many of us longtime fans are, it's an opportunity to play in a new universe, on new worlds, with new races, and in totally new periods...

This also raises an important point about the timeline here at Horizons, which is persistent and linear. That means that every story written on our forum is happening concurrently, roughly at the same time. This is a very exciting prospect as it allows for us to build upon our storyline, and affect past stories to affect future ones (we also have a "Flashbacks" forum, in which our members can write out past events that happen prior to the event of our storyline). What this also means is that we take special care when crafting stories--each and everything put down to paper affects the outcome of our stories. While we do know that the Empire is eventually defeated over Jakku, what we don't know is how they got there, and Horizons is all about exploring that gap.
