Royal Purple - The Performance Oil That Outperforms

Mark Fields’ ’69 Camaro was the 2013 Show It Off At SEMA Contest winner.

I’m not sure where the month of June went, but we are full steam ahead with a ton of activity this summer.

One of the biggest social media contests we run is the Show It Off at SEMA Contest that allows one lucky winner to display his or her vehicle at the not open to the public SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center as a FEATURE VEHICLE. This year’s event will be held Nov. 4-7, 2014.

This is the fourth year we will host the contest that will launch July 14, 2014 on our Facebook Fan Page. We are returning to the original format of Entry Period, Online Voting, and Judging of the finalists determined by the top FIVE who receive the most votes online.

We have been fortunate to not only have great vehicles but also great people as our guests, so the bar is set high for whomever this year’s winner will be!

I’m also super excited about this year’s independent panel judges.

Townsend Bell - Royal Purple sponsored race car driver in this year’s Indy 500 and we also sponsor his efforts in the TUDOR Sportscar Championship with AIM Autosport driving the No. 555 Ferrari 458 Italia. He is also a TV personality for IndyCar and Red Bull Global Rallycross.

Tim “Skrape” Katz – Vice President and Co-Founder of the Tapout and Authentic Brands Group LLC, he has been a regular on the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour and Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational behind the wheel of his ’66 Nova wagon.

Jeff Thisted – He’s worked with Bob Barker on “The Price Is Right” and hosted his own game-shows on GSN, but you know him best from Discovery Channel’s show “Rods ‘N Wheels” where he wrenches on classic American Iron.

Carrie Strange – Carrie and her husband Tim of Strange Motion Rod & Custom, brought her lavender ’64 Corvair hot rod to the SEMA Show as the 2013 Royal Purple Ladies selection.

Mark Fields – Last year’s winner was Mark’s ’69 Camaro. It’s been the tradition of the contest to ask the winner from the previous year’s contest to serve as a judge.

Here is the timeline for the contest.

July 14 – 24: Submit your photo via our Facebook Fan Page using the Contest App.

July 25 – 31: Online voting period – Besides choosing the perfect photo, this is where your work comes in. Get everyone you know, friends, family, colleagues, post on your social media or send an email blast to get the votes! People can vote for your car ONE time per 24 hour period during the open voting window.

Aug. 1: Finalists are announced. All five will have FIVE days to submit a complete spec sheet and 10 photos total of additional views of the exterior and interior of the vehicle. These are what the judges are basing their decisions on, so good, quality, clear photos are imperative!

Aug. 5 – 9: Judging

Judges will rank the five cars based on the following criteria. Each category is worth 10 points with 1 being the lowest a vehicle can earn and 10 being the highest. The vehicle with the most first place rankings wins. Please pay close attention to #3 – use of Royal Purple products DOES count!

1. Vehicle

You’ve been to the SEMA Show and have seen the type of vehicles displayed there. Because it’s not open to the public, the opportunity to show a vehicle is a bucket list item that only a few have the chance to experience. Please rate the vehicle on its SEMA Show worthiness. (Overall originality, workmanship, modifications).

2. Mechanical Quality

Based on the supplied vehicle specs and photos, how does it rate in comparison to the other finalists?

3. Royal Purple worthy
Use of Royal Purple products, did they specify which ones they use? RP is all about high performance does the vehicle fit the image of RP?

4. Cool Factor

Total quality of the car in all categories, and how well everything works together. A million-dollar paint job with a poor interior does not score high. Full engine work, but no suspension work should not score highly. What you are looking for is a car in the class that YOU would want to feature at the SEMA Show? All of the modifications are done correctly and equally balanced.

5. Picture Quality

This is a photo contest after all. Finalists were asked to send 10 of their best photos of the vehicle exterior and interior shots. Because you can’t see the vehicle in person, how well did the photos represent the vehicle?

Okay – I’ve been going on long enough!

Remember the contest opens on July 14!

Good luck!
