Just yesterday, Queen Silvia spoke to Svenskdam about his first birthday, “We are obviously very pleased to have little prince Oscar’s birthday tomorrow and grandparents naturally have a present but whatever it is, we will not tell. But it will be great fun.

“He’s a little fellow that is fun and the parents are very, very proud and we are also as grandparents to see his development. It’s fun for one day he looks like his father and other day as her mother! It’s very exciting for a lot is happening now.”

The Prince will celebrate privately with his family, but without grandfather, Carl Gustaf who will be in Finland for the Nordic World Ski Championships. Princess Madeleine and her family are currently in Sweden from London so he will be able to celebrate his first birthday with all of his cousins.

The third in line to the Swedish throne was born in the evening at Karolinska University Hospital. The birth was celebrated with a 21-gun salute, and his name and title were announced by his grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf in a cabinet meeting on 3 March. The same day a Te Deum service was held in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace with his maternal and paternal grandparents, father, sister, uncles Prince Carl Philip and Chris O’Neill, and aunts Princesses Madeleine and Sofia and Anna Westling Söderström.

Oscar was christened in the same chapel on 27 May 2016 with Princess Madeleine, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Oscar Magnuson, and Hans Åström serving as godparents. He wore the Swedish Royal Family’s traditional christening gown first worn by Prince (later King) Gustaf Adolph in 1906 at his christening. Prince Oscar’s name was then embroidered on the gown like those who wore it before him.

During his christening, his grandfather, the King presented him with his baby sash for the Order of the Seraphim. He was Knight of the Order of Charles XIII from birth.

He has already made a few notable public appearances in his young life. These include King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 70th birthday celebrations, Victoriadagen 2016, and Prince Alexander’s christening in September 2016.

His older sister, five-year-old Princess Estelle, Duchess of Östergötland, celebrated her birthday just last week. Two images were released by their parents, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, in celebration, as well. They were taken by Anna-Lena Ahlström.

The Crown Princess Family released two new photos in February. One was a family image with the other featuring Oscar and his big sister colouring on the floor. Estelle is said to be very patient and inclusive to her baby brother – even bringing him drawings to the hospital that she drew for him.
