The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will undertake more engagements today in Canada, as part of their 4 day tour.
First, Charles and Camilla will visit Province House, the second‑oldest active legislature building in Canada, and the 15 Youth Parliament members it hosts. They will see the impact that the young people make, and witness a debate, then discuss the advantages of model parliaments.
The Royal couple will then be presented with The Symons Medal at Memorial Hall, Confederation Centre of the Arts. This will thank Charles for his contributions to Canadians through his charity works and events. The Duchess will receive the same and it will also give the opportunity to address Canadians, celebrating 50 years since The Queen officially opened the Confederation Centre of the Arts, a memorial to the Fathers of Confederation. A plaque will be unveiled during the medal ceremony too.
Charles will then undertake a solo engagement at The Prince of Wales Campus, Holland College, showcasing their work in sustainable urban development and preserving the heritage of Prince Edward Island, an area which Charles is personally interested. He will also see the $17‑million state-of-the-art Centre for Applied Science and Technology, a highlight of the college.
Camilla will go to Prince Edward Home, a care home for the elderly. They try to provide a homelike atmosphere with ‘neighbourhoods’, and this will give The Duchess the chance to see their social activities programme and medical interventions.
Continuing solo, Charles will meet with Canadian Institute of Forestry, another topic which Charles is passionate about. He will meet with the 2013 inaugural winner of The Prince of Wales Award for Sustainable Forestry, Jocelyn Teron.
The couple will regroup and attend the Cornwall United Church, Cornwall, just west of Charlottetown, to honour the achievements of older people on Prince Edward Island, including veterans and volunteers. They will see a choir performance and see displays from the Women’s Institute, and the Scouts and Guides of P.E.I amongst others. Their Royal Highnesses will also chat with the younger generation, such as after-school clubs.
Again, on his own, The Prince will go to Bonshaw Provincial Park, highlighting the beauty of Prince Edward Island. A trail along the river by the Earth Rangers, of which Charles is a patron, will be called ‘The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall Trail System’.
Camilla will attend Immanuel Christian School after receiving a request from the children for a visit! She will see a short performance of Romeo and Juliet from the small independent school, which teaches pupils from kindergarten to 16, at the end of the day.
Rounding off the day, Charles and Camilla will leave Prince Edward Island for Winnipeg, Manitoba.
