(Chip Xterra says ‘hello’ and ‘my, what big canyon walls these are …’)

Cimarron, Colorado

Located approximately 20 miles east of Montrose (and closer to the turn off for Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park — view here + here + here + here), is the unincorporated community of Cimarron. The road next to the depot takes you up into the canyon/gorge a mile or so to an old refurbished train trestle for the old narrow gauge railroad that used to go through the Black Canyon. We spent a half hour or so exploring the Cimarron historic site, including a behind the scenes (aka behind a restricted gate with a NPS volunteer) tour of the caboose that’s being refurbished. And then I scared the crap out of my travel companions by literally standing on the edge of this rock to take photos of the fast moving Cimarron River.
