Big Bear Lake, CA – The countdown to kindergarten for the 2015-16 school year has started. Bear Valley Unified School District will be accepting kindergarten registration for any youngster that is age 5 by September 1 starting on Monday, April 13.
Kindergartners will be able to register at the following schools:
* BALDWIN LANE ELEMENTARY - 44500 Baldwin Lane – Sugarloaf – (909) 585-7766
* BIG BEAR ELEMENTARY - 40940 Pennsylvania Avenue – Big Bear Lake – (909) 866-4638
* NORTH SHORE ELEMENTARY - 765 North Stanfield Cutoff – Big Bear Lake – (909) 866-7501
ORIENTATION AND VISITATIONS
Kindergarten visitations and a parent orientation meeting for incoming kindergartners have been scheduled.
The 6 p.m. parent orientation meeting will be held at North Shore Elementary on Thursday, April 16.
Student classroom visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at both Baldwin Lane and Big Bear Elementary.
TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN
Transitional kindergarten (TK) is one of the first steps California’s youngest school children take in their academic careers and Bear Valley Unified is accepting registration for any child turning age 5 between September 2 and December 2.
The program is housed at Baldwin Lane Elementary School at 44500 Baldwin Lane in Sugarloaf for all students residing in the district. Students attending TK will enroll in kindergarten the following year.
TK classroom visitations are scheduled for parents and children between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23.
Offered across the state, TK is a new educational opportunity for children born in the fall. TK offers children developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with kindergarten standards, taught by credentialed teachers from K-12.
Transitional Kindergarten was created by a new California law in 2010 called the Kindergarten Readiness Act and was signed by then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
