Angelus Oaks, CA – Motorists utilizing Highway 38 can expect ongoing delays due to the pavement rehabilitation project from Valley of the Falls Drive in Angelus Oaks to north of the junction with Highway 18 in Big Bear City.  Work hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m.

The project — which began on Tuesday, May 20 and is scheduled to end by Friday, October 10 – will grind the existing roadway and then overlay Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt Concrete (RHMA), install guardrail and a center line rumble strip.

Caltrans advises that although the overall pavement condition is good, the road surface is showing signs of deterioration. By replacing the surface with RHMA, further deterioration can be prevented, the life of the pavement will be extended and the roadway will provide a smoother ride. The additional guard rail and the center line rumble strip will enhance safety for all motorists.

LANE CLOSURES REQUIRED

The Highway 38 rehabilitation project will require lane closures and a pilot car will be used to direct traffic. All work is dependent on weather,

“Traffic may not be stopped in one direction for periods of not more than 15 minutes except in emergencies,” according to a Caltrans Commuter Alert.

“Expect delays and please plan your commute accordingly,” the Caltrans notice states.
