ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA – Today, Congressman Keith Rothfus [PA-12] announced his selections for military service academy nominations.
“Nominating exceptional individuals to our service academies is one of the great honors of being a Congressman. Each of these young men and women has an impressive track record of academic and extracurricular achievement. Their desire to serve our nation in uniform is admirable and reflects well upon their families, schools, and communities. I look forward to following their progress through the appointment process.”
Congressman Rothfus hosted three separate Service Academy Days at local high schools that featured representatives from each of the five U.S. Service Academies who answered questions and provided information to students interested in attending on of these institutions.
U.S. Service Academy graduates receive first-rate undergraduate educations with options to pursue advanced degrees. They spend a minimum of five years in service to their country on active duty as a military officer. The full four-year scholarship for those selected to attend one of the five U.S. Service Academies is valued at more than $350,000 and includes tuition, room and board, medical and dental care, and a monthly stipend. Schedules are rigorous, and only the best and brightest young leaders are selected.
This year’s class includes twenty-six nominees with recommendations to the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. While a congressional nomination does not guarantee entry into a service academy, it distinguishes these young men and women among their peers.
