CSM Bucharest handball women’s team, holder of the Champions League trophy, has been assigned in a tough group of the 2016-2017 edition, to play against Gyori Audi ETO KC, FC Midtjylland and Rostov on Don, according to the draw on Friday at Glostrup (Denmark).
Audi ETO KC team is a finalist of the last edition of the competition, being defeated by CSM 29-26 after shootout penalties.
CSM had defeated the Russian team Rostov on Don in the quarter-finals 26-25 and 29-28.
The Danes with FC Midtjylland were Romania’s opponents in the main group, CSM won both games, 24-22 and 28-23.
The first round in the groups will take place October 14-16. Top three teams in each group will qualify for the main group of the competition.
Group A: Buducnost Podgorica (Montenegro), Thüringer HC (Germany), Metz Handball (France), winner of the preliminary Group 1;
Group B: Vardar Skopje (Macedonia), Astrahanocika Astrahan (Russia), FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria (Hungary), winner of the preliminary Group 2;
Group C: Gyori Audi ETO KC (Hungary), CSM Bucharest, FC Midtjylland (Denmark), Rostov on Don (Russia);
Group D: Larvik (Norway), Team Esbjerg (Denmark), IK Savehof (Sweden), winner of the preliminary Group 3.
