Mechanical Failure Relegates Kwasniewski to 26th-Place Finish

DOVER, Del. (June 1, 2014) - Dylan Kwasniewski made his first-career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Dover International Speedway during Saturday afternoon's Buckle Up 200 and was on his way to a solid finish until suffering a late-race mechanical issue, which relegated the 19-year-old rookie and his Rockstar Energy Drink team to a 26th-place finish. During the weekend's two NNS practices, Kwasniewski and his Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM) team laid down the 21st- and 13th-fastest times, respectively. Kwasniewski then went out Saturday evening and laid down a time of 23.774, which was good enough for the 17th starting position for Saturday afternoon's 200-lap race. Shortly after the green flag waved, Kwasniewski settled into the 16th position and was content to log laps and take care of his Rockstar Energy Drink Chevy. During the first caution on lap 18, Kwasniewski came down pit road and received two right-side tires, fuel and adjustments to help tighten up his TSM machine. After a lighting quick pit stop, Kwasniewski restarted in the 11th position. With the adjustments, Kwasniewski maintained his position until lap 64 when he reported to crew chief Pat Tryson that he was still "too free everywhere." Kwasniewski had dropped back to the 17th position, one lap down, when the second caution of the day came out on lap 74. Tryson again called the young rookie down pit road, this time for "wholesale changes" to the Rockstar Energy Drink Chevy. The field saw two more cautions, allowing Kwasniewski to visit pit road and settle into the 15th position for another long green-flag run. On lap 175, however, Kwasniewski told crew chief Pat Tryson that he had an issue with the car. Not taking any chances, Tryson brought Kwasniewski down pit road. During his time on pit road, the Rockstar Energy Drink team discovered a mechanical issue on the car. The team worked diligently to fix the issue and Kwasniewski returned to the track 12 laps down, ultimately coming home in the 26th position.

Dylan Kwasniewski on Racing at Dover International Speedway:

"I really enjoyed racing at Dover. It's such a fast place, especially in the Nationwide car. We had a top-15 run going and unfortunately we had a mechanical issue towards the end of the race. Pat and the guys continue to build great racecars for me. We have a lot of speed, we just need some luck to fall our way. We will take the off week to regroup and get ready for Michigan in two weeks."
