I think inspiration from nature is the best kind – and this magical shoot is no exception. Warm earthy tones were the inspiration behind the make up. Flowers and feathers were utilised for the accessories and the images are radiant and glowing from the hazy sunlight.
The idea behind the shoot was to create a Boho earth-child styled Bride, with one of the aims being to create accessories that looked as if they had been gathered by hand.
These utterly gorgeous floral crowns could easily be replicated for your wedding day. Lucy the stylist behind this shoot recommends using silk flowers from your local garden centre, this also eliminates any risk of wilting AND you have a floral crown for life, not just for your wedding day.
The Diane Harbridge gowns used are all so elegant and understated that they can be paired with amazing accessories, but they are still gorgeous in their own right. The Iris has a detachable cape, the Sweet Pea a key-hole back and delicate lace cap sleeves. The Tulip has a figure hugging fishtail shape and my personal favourite, the Ruby, has an amazing high neck and collar detail.
Not only do we have amazing gowns and accessories, but photographer Phil Drinkwater has managed to perfectly capture the warm haze of a British summer’s day slowly ebbing away into a pink sunset.
Get ready people – this shoot really is quite magical.
A Beautiful Natural Backdrop
Lucy The Stylist: The story behind the shoot was to create a boho, earth child style bride. The woodland/meadow setting provided a beautiful natural backdrop which took our girl from the late afternoon sunshine to a candlelit evening.
I used tea lights in jam jars, ribbons catching the breeze and a delicate lace tepee to set the scene.
Hair accessories echoed her surrounding – I wanted to create pieces that gave the impression they were made from found materials. Using feathers and flowers gave an elegant but relaxed look.
Iris
Dress Designer Diana Harbridge: This gown is very Victoriana looking with its detachable cape and intricate lace detail. The gown itself is made from two beautiful lace cloths that have been layered to give it its unusual look.
Lucy The Stylist: The baby’s breath crown is a simple and relatively inexpensive way to create a simple, romantic, bohemian feel.
Sweet Pea
Diane Harbridge: This vintage inspired mocha/ivory gown is made from the most beautiful lace. It’s cut out key-hole back detail gives it that unique look and is finished with a satin sash that chinches in at the waist emphasising those curves. This gown is also available in all ivory.
Ruby
Diane Harbridge: This straight fitting all over lace gown has that most beautiful high neckline that goes into a cute little collar. Finishing touches to this dress include buttons that run right the way from the top of the neck to the end of the train.
Lucy The Stylist: Silk flowers can be used alongside real ones to create beautiful floral crowns. Your local garden centre is a good place to look.
Tulip
Diane Harbridge: This mocha/ivory antic lace gown has the most amazing fishtail shape. With a satin sash cinching in at the waist this gown really showcases those fabulous curves. This gown is also available in all ivory.
The Warmth Of The Summer Sun
Claire The Make Up Artist: The hair and makeup needed to have a relaxed boho feel. I gave Amy’s hair a soft wave without too much product which allowed her hair to move freely in the gentle breeze. All hair products used were from Tresemme and Schwarzkopf.
The makeup I chose was all about shades and tones that would bring together the warmness of Amy’s hair, the warmth of the summer evening sunshine and the shade of the flower headdresses created by Lucy. Make up was from MAC and Bobbi Brown.
I also used warm tone products with light reflective shimmer in them so they would catch the sunlight and bring out the blue in Amy’s eyes.
Soft And Gentle Light
Phil The Photographer: The story called for a wide variety of natural lighting options, from soft gentle backlighting of the afternoon, through late evening sunset across the trees, to actual sunset.
Into the night, the scene was lit by an Icelight which gave a soft and gentle feel and was set to a similar brightness to the tea lights. Amy was positioned and posed in natural environments to complement the natural material used throughout.
