Plus tips for ultimate honeymoon style

For all of you lovely readers planning your wedding, we are guessing you may also be planning a honeymoon or mini moon! And if that is relaxing on the beach or lounging by the pool then we are already feeling pretty jealous. We are definitely in need of some sunshine here at RMW HQ. One thing we like just as much as the sunshine is the inevitable holiday shopping…all those lovely dresses, sandals and bikinis. It’s always tricky deciding on the right swimwear and even more tricky trying it on and knowing what suits you. Luckily we have got the insider information for you today from the fabulous folks over at Heidi Klein. And they know a thing or two about swimwear.

Experts in all things swim and resortwear, luxury brand Heidi Klein are your go-to for impeccably flattering, stylistically iconic swimwear. More than just designer bikinis – Heidi Klein have over 15 years of experience in creating a technically perfect fit, cut and shape to flatter different body shapes. With a focus on hidden support features, they use luxe fabrics designed to both pull you in and emphasise, giving you the ultimate in elegant honeymoon style.

Heidi Gosman, Co-founder and Creative Director, lets you into her insider secrets for selecting a stylish honeymoon wardrobe, with perfectly fitting swimwear that will make you feel confident and chic, ready for beach, bar and beyond. Keep reading for her tips and tricks for choosing swimwear for your body shape.

Heidi’s top 3 Honeymoon style tips

1) Protecting your skin is the ultimate tip, as there is nothing worse than getting sunburnt on the first day. Go for SPF 50+ sunblock always, but spoil yourself with luxe products that will nourish your skin and feel like a treat – my personal favourite is the naturally-made Ligne St Barth Roucou sunscreen range which cleverly offers a high SPF whilst allowing a gradual tan to develop. Travel with a super-chic wide brimmed hat for full-face protection AND added style.

2) Think style AND practicality when you pack – choose styles that you can dress down for daytime and on the beach, then dress up for evenings. Chic maxi dresses and elegant strapless jumpsuits are perfect for this – keep the styles simple like the nautical Carolina dress and floaty like the Lux Maldives dress. Our resortwear is all specifically made to pack small and resist creasing, and we hunt down luxe fabrics that are also really practical to care for. Don’t forget that if you’re wearing strapless styles in the evening, you should choose swimwear that is strapless or has removable straps to avoid obvious tan lines.

3) If you’re not naturally brimming with body confidence, accessories can be your best friend on the beach. Luxe cover-ups and beach jewellery will distract the eye, and really bring your look together. Personally I love accessorising with a simple cuff, not fussy but elegant. Choose the Heidi Klein Double Stud Bracelet. Casual heels will add flattering height without looking out of place on the beach – our bestsellers are the Montego Bay wedge shoes in both mushroom and black – perfect for both style and comfort. The finishing touch should be the perfect go-anywhere bag to keep all your essentials close to hand, from room, to beach, to bar – this season’s Savannah Bay mini raffia bagin black has been super-popular as it’s smart enough to take out in the evening, but equally perfect for lazing by the pool.

How to choose the perfect swimwear for your body type

Evenly Proportioned

If you have a silhouette with even proportions, then a bandeau bikini top with hidden support will emphasise the curves of a modest bust and low cut bottoms will emphasize a small waistline. Padded cups in the bikini top provide extra shape as well as support. For this, choose the vibrant Chile bandeau with subtle padding. Low, hipster bottoms will complement a flat stomach, and a flattering detail at the hips, such as ties or bows, will draw attention to bottom area and emphasises feminine curves, check out the classic Mykonos bow hipster bottoms.

Petite

For petite silhouettes with a boyish frame, add the illusion of more shape with tie-side bottoms that have intricate detail at the hips. Skimpier triangle and bandeau tops for instance are all ideal styles for petite shapes. Tops with subtle padding in the cups will provide additional volume while feminine frill and bow detailing will draw attention to the bust area. Choose our structured bandeau, such as the Hollywood balcony bikini which has inbuilt wires and cups, or our triangle top, such as the St Kitts, Namibia or St Thomas (as seen recently on Kate Bosworth), which has removable padding.

Larger Top

For larger bust shapes, proper support is essential so look for underwired bars to provide lift and padded cups to deliver a more balanced shape. Choose the Namibia or Key West. The aim is to minimize the focus on the bust area and draw the eye towards the lower part of the body. Go for bottoms that have some tie-side detail with a classic fitting bottom to accentuate the bottom half. Take a look at the Long Island Tie Side bottoms – Vogue recently chose this story to feature in their 100th anniversary Ultimate Checklist.

A control one-piece will offer even more support with a compressed close-knit structure, including ribbed fabrics and built-in power mesh: All these elements work to streamline and smooth your silhouette.  Check out our fuller support styles including ruched one-pieces, Key West and Namibia, which offer plenty of our trademark “secret ingredients” – moulded cups, side boning and silicone edging –  giving you the ultimate support, hold and an accentuated waistline.

Heidi Klein are unique in offering an entire separate sizing range for larger cup sizes – our D-G range is available in one-pieces and bikini tops, which can be mixed and matched to different-sized bottoms, with perfect fit and support in mind.

Larger Bottom

If you’re looking for more coverage on the bottom then try to draw the attention to the bust area instead of the hip area.  Go for padded cups or subtle details on the top to create cleavage and draw the eye upward. The Honolulu Bow top does exactly this.

There is a common misconception that more material is better for an area you want to hide, but actually that’s not true. A larger brief will accentuate the bottom area rather than disguise it, so go for something well-fitting instead of oversized. A fold over bottom will complement the waist area by giving support to the tummy area. Check out the classic black Manhattan fold over bottom. Also, a well-fitting one-piece with detail at the bust is ideal for curvy shapes to elongate the silhouette – look at our Manda Island one-piece in flattering khaki with a plunging V and luxurious gold accent.
