Apologies for the gap our own 2012-in-review series. September is my month, and it got backlogged behind the UCLA Study Hall piece and bowl previews. But I should be done with the crush of bowl previews by around noon today, so it should resume apace. Sheesh, who runs this crappy site, anyway?
The Trib: Alden discusses year in transition
Q: Have you made a final decision on whether you'll be able to move up the completion date for the east-side addition from 2015 to 2014?
A: We're much closer to believing we'll be able to bring that thing together and have it in place for the 2014 season. There's still a couple of things that need to take place that need to be bid out. We need to see how those bids come out. The designing of that is close to being completed. Then we have to look at weather patterns, delivery and steel and all these things. But with our fingers crossed, we think there's a chance we could have that completed for 2014.
Q: Any idea of when the south end zone addition might happen and when the new indoor practice facility will be ready?
A: You would probably see us step into that. The south end zone complex and the indoor facility and possibly the human performance center — that's a piece that goes along with the Devine Pavilion that we showed in our renderings — I would see the indoor facility and possibly the human performance center being pieces that would be in place before the south end zone center. I think that south end zone piece is just a massive structure. It's so big. And it's important that you've got your financing in place and your funding sources in place. We feel comfortable on that for the indoor facility and the human performance center, but that's still a couple years away on the south end zone complex.
Q: And then is the idea ultimately to have all of the football offices in the south end complex?
A: Yes, ideally. That would provide a much broader space for all of our Olympic sports that are currently in the (Missouri Athletic Training Complex).
Q: In two donations you've received $36.4 million this year. Generally speaking, from most of your donors, have you seen continued enthusiasm since the initial novelty and excitement about moving to the SEC has worn off?
A: We have. I've been pleased with that. We're working on a few other significant gifts, as well. That's an ongoing process with all of us at Mizzou. We've been pleased that the enthusiasm is still there. I think folks recognize that this is an investment, not a short-term play. This is a long-term play.

4. M-I-Z-D-G-B: Some will argue this one should be higher on the list. There is no doubt when Dorial Green-Beckham slipped on a Missouri hat during a nationally televised ceremony on National Signing Day that it was the biggest recruiting coup in a quarter of a century for Tiger football. The consensus number one player in America, DGB had a final four of Mizzou, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Alabama. He surprised many by picking the home-state Tigers, setting off a program-wide celebration. Green-Beckham struggled early on, making little impact outside of an 80-yard touchdown against Central Florida prior to a one-game suspension against Vanderbilt after a marijuana-related arrest. But DGB came on strong in the second half of the season, finishing his freshman season with 28 catches for 395 yards and a team-leading five touchdowns, including two in a 51-48 triple-overtime win at Tennessee.
3. Sweet Sendoff to the Big 12: When Haith's hiring was announced in late March of 2011, the discontent rang loud and clear from every corner of the Tiger fanbase. The disbelief and ridicule from national observers was no less fervent. When Bowers went down with a torn ACL weeks before the start of the season, most wrote off Missouri's first-year coach and undermanned roster. But riding a group of just seven scholarship players, Haith guided the Tigers to a 27-and-4 regular season as they entered the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City. In the ultimate turf war, the Tigers laid claim to Kansas City as "Our Town" in a three-day rampage through the conference tournament. The final was a third win of the season over Baylor with English earning Most Outstanding Player honors. Chants of "S-E-C" rang through the Sprint Center as Missouri played its final weekend as a member of the league.

Let’s remember some of the good, for sanity's sake:
A.) Coach Frank Haith has more than passed expectations so far, now more than a year into his Missouri tenure after arriving from Miami. He inspired talent last season that underachieved under former coach Mike Anderson. After earning the Associated Press’ Coach of the Year award for his work in his Mizzou debut, Haith has the Tigers holding a 10-2 record after falling just short at UCLA.
B.) Coach Tim Jamieson guided the baseball program to its first Big 12 tournament title, after four previous appearances in the event’s final. The No. 6 seed Tigers beat Texas, Texas A&M, Kansas and Oklahoma in five days to earn an appearance at an NCAA Regional for the eighth time in 10 years. It marked Missouri’s first baseball conference championship since winning the Big Eight tournament in 1980.
C.) The athletics department received a $30 million private gift from the Kansas City Sports Trust to aid a $200 million facility improvement plan. The Memorial Stadium vision includes an upper-bowl addition on the east side with more than 5,000 general-admission seats and a club level with more than 1,000 seats. There also will be press-box renovations, north concourse improvements and other structural repairs.
