A quick peek at my Instagram or Facebook pages and you’ll know exactly what my priorities are. I love food, traveling and my kids, and very often, all three will converge. I have a huge passion for healthy eating and cooking meals at home, but come the weekend, I like to get adventurous, exploring the diverse selection of restaurants in Orange County.

Dining out can be expensive, particularly when it becomes regular and frequent. Because I am an absolute foodie, my restaurant choices tend to be pricey, specializing in unique concept kitchens, organic farm-to-table menus, and serving up cuisine from top chefs. I often view food as an experience, shared with friends and loved ones. So when I go out to eat, I want an experience that is memorable and unique.

Whether you’re a foodie or you simply want to try something new, Newport Beach Restaurant Week is the perfect time to do so. For 14 glorious days, you can enjoy prix-fixe meals from 60 of Newport Beach’s most delightful dining destinations. The restaurants vary in ambiance and culinary style and with two or three-course menus priced between $10-$25 for lunch and $20-$50 for dinner. Newport Beach Restaurant Week, presented by Dine Newport Beach and Newport Beach Restaurant Association runs through January 29th, 2017. Earlier this week, a few of my favorite foodie friends dined at The Bungalow Restaurant as part of Newport Beach Restaurant Week. Located in Corona Del Mar, the restaurant features prime steaks, fresh seafood and an award-winning wine list. The Craftsman style restaurant is a favorite among residents and visitors with a warm ambiance created by rich tones, dark wood, and private dining booths. The Bungalow recently introduced a lunch menu available Monday through Friday.

During our tasting lunch, we sampled a variety of dishes featured on their Prix Fixe Lunch Menu for Newport Beach Restaurant Week. You can order two courses from the menu for $15, with the option of adding dessert for an additional $5. It should be noted that this special menu does not allow for split plates or substitutions.

As a pescetarian, I still found that the menu offered several appetizing dishes. I started with the Bungalow Salad, which includes bay shrimp and is complimented by a tasty tarragon vinaigrette.

For the second course, I split an order fish tacos and the Grilled Mahi Mahi & Wild Rice Salad. The fish tacos were hearty, served with Spanish rice and beans.

My favorite entree was the Grilled Mahi Mahi, which was served over a bed of wild rice, almonds, edamame, carrots and scallions. The sesame seed honey vinaigrette which complements the dish is absolutely divine.

We ended the meal with a dark & white chocolate tulip cup filled with bittersweet chocolate and topped with house-made whipped cream. The dessert was rich but perfect in size after our 2-course meal.

During Newport Restaurant Week, you’ll have the opportunity to try the latest food trends, discover new dining spots or find comfort in your favorites.
