Oklahoma State Cowboys at Kansas Jayhawks Big 12 Football Preview - Big 12 Blog - Big 12 Conference Blog

Oklahoma State is ranked No. 16 in this week's Associated Press poll and is No. 18 in the Coaches poll. Kansas is, as you should know unless you just woke up from a coma you entered in 2008, unranked. This week's game marks the 75th time in the last 91 weeks of college football that OSU has appeared in the top 25 of the AP poll, dating back to the 2008 season.

Big 12 stat check: Week 7 - Big 12 Blog - ESPN

Kansas: One obvious reason for Kansas' ineptitude on offense: its now-reopened quarterback situation. Kansas' quarterback play and production -- measured in opponent-adjusted QBR -- ranks No. 117 nationally. Only Vanderbilt and Wake Forest have worse quarterback play among Power 5 conference schools. KU's team adjusted QBR of of 26.1 is nearly 30 points below the national average.

KU interim coach Clint Bowen working to keep team united | CJOnline.com

Each of the Kansas football players gathered at midfield at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, jumping around before yelling “Jayhawks” four times in unison during practice at Memorial Stadium. It’s just a small example of a larger mission for interim coach Clint Bowen: Get the squad to think of itself as a team and not as individuals or small groups. “It's always, ‘Encourage and help your teammates,’ and, ‘Take care of your job,’” Bowen said. That was a challenging message to get across two weeks ago.

“We’re just trying to go into practice to put our offense in the best position to be successful,” said Cozart, who started the first four games of 2014 but was benched for the second half last week. “(Tuesday) at practice, going in and out, coming off, Mike asked me questions, and when I come out, he gave me advice, and T.J., as well. We’re all kind of counting on one another to build off of and learn.”

What caught my eye at Wednesday's practice: Oct. 8th | Tale of the Tait | KUsports.com

It was too hard to tell exactly who looked best as a thrower — each guy (Michael Cummings, Montell Cozart and T.J. Millweard) had good moments and bad — but it was easy to see who was the most impressive receiver. His name was Nigel King and he caught everything. King got open, used his big frame to shield off DBs and snatched the ball out of the air.

As Bill Self sorts through crowded backcourt, freshman Devonte’ Graham emerges | The Kansas City Star

If there’s been one theme during the Jayhawks’ first week of official practice, it’s been Self’s praise of Graham, a 6-foot-2 guard who spent last season at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., the same prep school that produced former Kansas players Thomas Robinson and Naadir Tharpe.

New Iowa State gold uniform gets thumbs-up from McDonald's - Big 12 Blog - ESPN

Iowa State has accidentally found a way to replicate the classic outfit worn by Ronald McDonald, all the way down to the red shoulder stripes. The Cyclones might want to stay away from striped socks and red shoes on Saturday. As for McDonald's tweet, well, that sure is some fine (and probably unintended) trolling.

Notre Dame QB Everett Golson could have been someone on the hardwood - ESPN

A Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, native, Golson had initially pledged to the Tar Heels' basketball program in February 2010. He had spoken with legendary coach Roy Williams, and there was a strong possibility that he would have spent his winters in Chapel Hill on the hardwood, before the football team's NCAA investigation and a trip to Notre Dame eventually forced him to flip his commitment.

These Deadbeat Parents Fell For The Old "Free Tickets To The Iron Bowl" Trick

The Lee County Sheriff's Office in Opelika, Ala. took a creative approach to rounding up a few parents who'd fallen way behind in their child support payments: they told them they'd won free tickets to the annual Iron Bowl, and then they arrested them when they came to collect on the prize. It's like To Catch A Predator, but with more malice, because these people just wanted to watch a football game.
