Inside NHFPL
Meet NHFPL Staff Member: Cristian Astudillo
Cristian Astudillo joined the staff of the New Haven Free Public Library thirteen years ago and in that time has worked at all five library branches! Cristian grew up in Chile and came to the United States at the age of 19. He studied both Computer Science and Romance Languages earning a double major for his BA at Southern Connecticut State University. Currently, Cristian is working on a Computer Network Certificate at Gateway Community College.
What is your role at the New Haven Free Public Library?
I am multi-lingual Library and Technology Assistant. My efforts are concentrated in information literacy instruction, library operations, technology system management and public service.
What do you enjoy most about working at NHFPL?
My view of technology is based on my love of literature: the user interface needs to capture the imagination and inspire the user; it needs to be more than just a gadget. Daily I put this thinking to use by serving as the link between raw information, technology and the curious patron by responding to their concerns, whether it is understanding how a program functions or how information affects their interaction with the world. My natural curiosity about how our tools relate to our needs assists me with troubleshooting and maintaining library technology systems.
What book are you currently reading or is on your nightstand waiting to be explored?
Right now I am reading Orhan’s Inheritance by Aline Ohanesian. (Available in print or audiobook with you New Haven Free Public Library card!)
