Watch how quick they are to headcanon the black woman as asexual or some other incompatible orientation to keep them away from their WMF. Or watch to see how they come down with a sudden desire to see more platonic friendships on shows whenever a black woman gets any ship tease.
Watch how they can analyse white characters to the point of writing essays, but can’t seem to so much as describe her after one sentence.
Watch how they can’t seem to describe her positively other than being strong, sassy, or supportive.
Watch how they seem to forget that she is part of the ensemble cast when it comes to fanwork, but have no problem showering praise from even the most minor white characters.
Watch how the fandom is okay with the black woman character being sexualized and demonized, but not romanced and romanticized.
Watch how they do not seem to care whenever she is suffering because that is not fulfilling the strong, independent black woman stereotype. But for everyone else they are woobies and angsters. For her, she is overreacting if they notice at all.
Watch how they do not seem to care about her death no matter how tragically they present it. Apparently a black woman character’s death is less tragic than the white characters not hooking up or not getting everything they want.
Watch how she is a grown woman even though she is underage while everyone else are precious babies even if they are middle-age. Any compliments such as saying she is cute, innocent, delicate are undermining her strength as a character even if she is a girl. Or they just can’t picture a black woman character being described as those terms.
Watch how they they criticize how “problematic” she is, while everyone else especially white guys, have their faults be ignored, sympathized, if not praised for doing the same thing if not worse. But criticizing everyone else is being overcritical.
Watch how they hate the black woman character for being evil and want her to be killed off, but for everyone else they are speculated to have a troubled backstory and can be redeemed.
Watch how they only ship her with black guy characters no matter how incompatible they are, but for everyone else it is unrealistic. They just want to push her out of the way from stepping out of bounds. Because even those ships are sidelined for the white parings.
Watch how they say how being the the middle of a love triangle, being a damsel in distress who gets saved, a princess, within a subculture, or even highly regarded in universe and/or fandom is met with scorn by how cliche it is for women to be in those tropes and characterizations.
Watch how they hate her for having her own agency and not taking care of the white characters 24/7, but white characters do not have to do the same to be loved. In fact, the white characters can be anti-black and misanthropic but still have more love. Maybe even be love not despite, but because they are anti-black and misanthropic. But black women characters can’t show any resentments or else she is dubbed as the bitter black women.
Watch how black woman characters are hated for so much as showing disagreement for white characters even though she has every reason to be, while everyone else is allowed to rag on the black woman character no matter how contrived it is other than she is a black woman.
Watch how they fandom hates the black woman character to the point of wanting to inflict violence on her. And watch how they deny that it is anti-back to want to hurt a black woman
by rationalizing for the most trivial of reasons because we all know that white characters get a pass at having flaws.
Watch how the fandom would prefer the black woman character to be abused than anyone else because they think she can handle it. She is supposed to be under the bus for everyone else. And watch how they deny that it is anti-black by idealizing her abuse as character development and strengthening her that they will soon forget about.
Watch how when fans have criticism over how the black woman character is treated while other fans will say that you should be appreciative that she is there at all. They threaten that criticizing will cancel the show leaving people with no black woman characters. Sometimes they just simply say to shut up.
Watch how wanting to have more black woman characters, or any at all, is asking too much, being selfish and greedy, or should wait their turn. But white people do not have to be patient for getting the lion’s share of representation. Even to the point of justifying whitewashing, but having black woman character have the role that a white person originally took is just filling a quota or being politically correct.
Watch how the fandom shames black fans for liking the black woman character because they claim that they only like them because they are black and they are shallow for not hating her like the rest of the fandom for being a black woman. Pointing out the irony from that statement would be met with saying that you are being hypercritical and overreacting.
Watch how showing any black woman character appreciation and essays will be met with disdain for “excluding” everyone else, even though they have no problem excluding black woman characters. Apparently, when talking about women in general black women do not count because that is bringing race into it, but when talking about black women you want to talk about all women (but actually white women) to be more diverse.
Watch how by criticizing the fandom brings people excusing their actions as just having preferences and we should not judge because the point of fandoms is to have fun. But if your definition of fun is to completely disregarding black woman characters when you are not making another hate club, then look at yourself. These things do not come in a vacuum, and how you think of black woman characters does reflect on how you think of black women. It is not girl hate to ask why are people disregarding black woman characters. It is not being politically correct to ask why are black woman characters being ignored and hated. That is just having black women a chance to shine too.
