Richland Library is seeking a skilled candidate to promote safety and security of library premises, property, customers and staff at our Main location. The ideal candidate has two years of recent security or law enforcement experience, is organized and able to communicate clearly and concisely, has a sharp mind and an eye for detail. Here are some of things you would be doing if hired for this position:
Patrolling all interior & exterior grounds to protect premises, property, & equipment; moving constantly & quickly between areas as appropriate, up to 8.5 hours per day; grounds include all areas of main library, & all exterior areas controlled by library, including parking areas, walks, landscape, & vehicles; exterior work involves a wide range of climate, including extremes of climate; “move constantly” entails primarily walking but also frequent stooping, bending, reaching, & stairs.
Carefully observing all unusual activities & behavior on library property, & responding appropriately; “observing” requires mobility, & adequate sight & hearing; “responding” involves decision-making, judgment, & knowledge of policies & procedures.
Responding to fire & burglar alarms after hours, when informed by alarm company, police, or supervisor; requires immediately available, reliable transportation to the necessary locations.
Assisting customers & staff in emergency situations relating to security & safety; physical exertion, lifting, carrying, grasping, stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, seeing, hearing.
Interpreting, communicating, and enforcing library policies, procedures, & rules to customers, security workers, & other staff.
Communicating information related to safety, security, and library-general information; present a positive image of library to general public; speaking, hearing, judgment, tact, knowledge, job ability, & appropriate professional appearance.
Dealing effectively & appropriately with disorderly customers whenever necessary, including, as needed: effectively correcting them, removing them, preventing harm to property or persons, & notifying law enforcement as appropriate; knowledge of policy & procedure; physical exertion, lifting, carrying, grasping, reaching, pulling, pushing, balancing, good judgment, & tact.
Maintaining appropriate security reports & records.
Assisting with administering emergency First Aid to staff & customers.
Assisting with monitoring & administering staff parking.
Assisting library staff in limited aspects of their job duties, as needed.
Locating certain customers & relaying messages from outside callers, within appropriate guidelines.
Providing security to other Library locations & special events, as needed.
Performing other duties as required or assigned.

Graduation from high school.
At least two years previous experience in security and/or law enforcement.
No record of conviction for criminal offense.
Drug free.
Ability to perform all job duties.
Valid Driver’s License, safe driving record and dependable transportation to any location as assigned.
Preference may be given for supervisory experience.

Salary: $12.23 per hour
Hours: 20.0 hours/week: Monday-Wednesday, 8:15 am -1:15 pm; Saturday 1:15 pm – 6:15 pm
** Richland Library may change location and schedule of any library job.
This job involves being “on the move” in our libraries: It will include standing, walking, crouching, stooping, squatting, twisting, climbing, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
