What are E-Cigs?
E-cigs are an alternative to cigarettes. The first electronic cigarettes are attributed to a Chinese pharmacist named Hon Lik, who patented the first nicotine based e-cigarette in 2003.
But a similar device was created as far back as 1927. This device was invented by an American called Joseph Robinson who patented the Electric Vaporizer, which was used to vaporise medicinal substances rather than nicotine.
The e-cigs that we know today have become a popular device used by people trying to stop smoking cigarettes.
At a glance, e-cigarettes look like regular cigarettes and to the uninitiated, vaping could easily be mistaken for smoking. But the major difference is that e-cigs don’t contain any tobacco.
In fact, e-cigs don’t have many of the harmful tars or dangerous substances contained in cigarettes, such ascarbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrogen cyanide or the 4,000 toxic chemical compounds found within a single cigarette.
E-cigs do contain nicotine though, the highly addictive chemical that makes it so difficult to stop smoking regular cigarettes. But the good thing about e-cigs is that you can control the amount of nicotine you’re inhaling by buying different strength e-liquids.
Eventually, you can cut this down to a minimal nicotine dose or even buy cartridges that contain no nicotine at all, and just appreciate the experience of vaping for pure enjoyment.
Instead of igniting an e-cig with a match or lighter as you would a standard cigarette, it is powered by a battery which heats – or vaporises – the nicotine and allows the user to vape the resulting mist. The vape that is produced looks like real cigarette smoke and the action is very similar to ‘taking a puff’.
