Shannon's Top Ten Favorite Secondary Characters
I did a similar post a few months ago talking about my favorite secondary characters from dystopian and fantasy books and because I am lazy...some of these are verbatim from my previous. But, some are new too!
1. Manchee from The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
Manchee, Todd's talking dog, is just like you would expect a dog to be. The relationship that develops between Todd and Manchee is beautiful. Truly. Oh Manchee - you broke my heart.
2. Wolf from Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
Wolf is a hunk. 'Nuff said.
3. Grimalkin from The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa
Grimalkin is a fay who takes form as a cat. He shows up whenever he wants and disappears just as quickly...usually when things start to go wrong. He has no patience for silly humans. Just like a real cat.
4. Roar from Under the Never Sky series by Veronica Rossi
I think everyone loves Roar.
5. The Water Horses from The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
Not something I would want to meet in a dark alley at night...or anywhere really. *Shudder*
6. Storm and Mula/Red from The Bitter Kingdom by Rae Carson
Storm is an irascible fellow. i loved how he interacted with the others and how you could never really know what he was thinking. Red (nee Mula) was a kick in the pants. Nothing got that girl down.
7. Nero from the Dust Land series by Moira Young
Ummm, who wouldn't a pet attack crow?
8. Kenji from Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Kenji brings much needed levity to the scene with Ultra-Serious (aka Adam) and Uber-Serious (aka Juliette). Always quick to make a joke and isn't taken very seriously. But I love that Mafi gave him a lot more depth than what he shows on the surface.
9. Sturmhond, Tamar and Tolya from Storm and Siege by Leigh Bardugo
These three were a breath of fresh air in the second book. Sturmhond was just...exactly what you would want a dashing rogue to be like. Tamar and Tolya - fighting Grishna ass kickers! What more could you want?
10. Wee Free Men from Tiffany Aching series in the Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett
The Wee Free Men are kilt wearing little blue men who aid Tiffany Aching on her journeys. They fight, get in constant trouble, but are loyal to their "hag". They are seriously the best part of the books.
