Claimed bike weight is a not-so-svelte 17.5 pounds.
Marcel Kittel was one of the first professional cyclists to win a road race on a disc brake equipped bike, grabbing glory at last month’s Dubai Tour on a Specialized Venge ViAS Disc. But things got weird in the ensuing days when Kittel was involved in a crash that left another rider with cuts to his shoe and foot. The rider blamed a disc rotor on Kittel’s bike, and the next day the German swapped the rig featured here for a traditional caliper brake-equipped bike.
The lack of a brake caliper helps enhance aero efficiency at the frame/fork interface.
Say what you will about disc brakes in the professional peloton, but there is no denying this bike’s sex appeal. Kittel’s custom painted Specialized Venge ViAS combines aerodynamics and (presumably) significantly more powerful braking. He rides Specialized’s house brand Roval wheels, and full Shimano Dura Ace Di2 drivetrain. Here’s a full rundown of the bike’s spec and a video profile below courtesy of our friends at the Global Cycling Network.
Disc brakes and stiffness enhancing thru-axles adorn the front and rear of this speed machine.
