Projects Undertaken

Project 4:

Project Name:  LTE MAC layer procedure for UE side.

S/W Language: C , Data structure

Position: Software Associate

Operating System: Linux

Debugging Tool: GDB

Project Description:

Mac Layer is the center of all LTE procedures. All logical channels (BCCH, PCCH, CCCH, DCCH, and DTCH) go through the Mac Layer. PCCH and BCCH carrying MIB information does not require Re-transmission and direct mapping with PCH and BCH transport channel.

CCCH,DCCH,DTCH follows the MAC layer procedures starts from prioritization, mux/de-mux and HARQ procedures and lead the message into L1 for further transmission.

Random Access procedure starts from MAC layer and does not hold any logical channels. The pre-defined messages Msg1 and Msg 2 are used for random access procedure and RRC signaling messages are done through Msg 3, Msg 4, Msg5. Random Access control have Group A and Group B with 0 to 64 preambles for transmitting Random access procedures. It has been send through RACH to L1 for transmission.

Responsibilities:

Study of 3GPP Specs TS 36.321, TS 34.123 and writing the test Specifications.

Developing codes in C and UNIX

Documenting test reports, defect reports, and bug reports.

Documentation for High Level Design and Low Level Design.

Interact with product development team to provide best possible solution to customer requirements

Supporting activities on external team issues and good debugging skills

Good knowledge and practice of Verification process , test methodologies and Quality initiatives

Project 3:

Project Name:  Traffic Volume Measurements

S/W Language: C , Data structure

Position: Software Associate

Operating System: Linux

Debugging Tool: GDB

Project Description:

Traffic volume measurements describe the traffic monitoring in UE MAC to support transport channel switching and network optimization. UE MAC layer performs traffic volume monitoring by knowing the payload in each RLC buffer to be triggered on transport channel level. It is the function of MAC to send a traffic monitoring report to RRC and then RRC will send evaluated report to the network containing expected UL traffic.  The network evaluates the payload and finds suitable method to meet the demand of capacity.

MAC layers performs traffic monitoring in either periodic or event trigger monitoring and it is controlled by RRC. The periodic monitoring sends new reports periodically after time has expired. The event trigger monitoring RRC gives a range of allowed buffer value and once the transmission queue goes out of range then the alarm indication sends to RRC.

The purpose of traffic volume monitoring is to allocate the radio resources effectively. If the allocated resource are not sufficient, UTRAN will re-configure itself (radio bearers, channel allocation, transport channel configuration) and then add resources. If the allocated resources are underutilized, UTRAN may reconfigure the connection from a dedicated channel to a shared channel and other way is to lower transport format bit rate.

Responsibilities:

Study of 3GPP Specs TS 25.331, TS 34.123 and writing the test Specifications.

Project 2:

Project Name:  RRC Connection Establishment

S/W Language: C , Data structure

Position: Software Associate

Operating System: Linux

Debugging Tool: GDB

Project Description:

RRC connection establishment is used to make the transition from RRC Idle mode to RRC connected mode. This procedure is always initiated by the UE but triggered by either the UE or the network. Network triggers RRC connection establishment procedures by sending a paging message and UE triggers in case of application usage and other applications.

RRC connection establishment uses transparent mode RLC on CCCH logical channel with SRB 0. After that logical channel mapped onto Random Access procedure (RACH) transport channel in MAC layer and then it is mapped onto PRACH in the physical layer to transfer the message. PRACH used by all UE in the cell, so it will listen AICH channel to know the allotted time slot to send PRACH message to Network.

After a setup message from network, UE configure layer 2 and layer 1 to locally establish DCCH channel with SRB1. RRC connection set up complete message is send to network through dedicated DCCH channels.

Responsibilities:

Study of 3GPP Specs TS 25.331, TS 34.123 and writing the test Specifications.

Developing codes in C and UNIX

Documenting test reports, defect reports, and bug reports.

Documentation for High Level Design and Low Level Design.

Interact with product development team to provide best possible solution to customer requirements

Supporting activities on external team issues and good debugging skills

Master’s Project (abroad):

Project 1:

Project Name:  Analysis of Inter-carrier Interference in LTE under High mobility conditions.

S/W Language:  MATLAB C , Data structure

Position: Student

Team Size: 1

Operating System: Windows 7 64 BIT

Debugging Tool: MATLAB version R2010b

Project Description:

The sub-carrier spacing (15KHz) is very much sensitive in OFDM to lead to frequency errors. If the receiver’s frequency is some fraction delay of sub-carrier bandwidth/spacing, It will cause interference among all carriers during that transmission. This effect causes Inter – carrier Interference due to Leakage effect in the theory of Discrete Fourier transform.

If Turbo encoder/decoder works exactly with the Shannon’s theorem, then there will not be any error. But in reality Transmitter and receiver frequency drift during transmission cause mismatch of center frequency. This leads to two problems minimized power spectral density and null point in the diagonal matrix disturbed and it cause interference from adjacent sub-carriers.

In this project, ratio between absolute frequency offset between transmitter and receiver and sub-carrier spacing are studied and kept under 0.1 ppm frequency stability. The frequency correction did using frequency offset, pilot signal and the cyclic prefix.

The matrix with the Interference aware receiver were chosen to analyses the situation, when user travelling at a speed of 350km/hr.

Responsibilities:

Study of 3GPP Specs TS 36.201, TS 34.123 and analysis Research paper for Literature/Technology survey.

The proposal have to be prepared with problem description, route map, project plan with the help of PERT/CPM and GANTT chart also describing about risk strategy of the project.

Design and the Developed coding in MATLAB C.

Documentation for High Level Design and Low Level Design.

Documenting test reports, defect reports, and bug reports

Final report documented with presentation and submitted to International Education committee.
